Worms that look like grains of rice are tapeworms. You need to check your puppy for fleas because tapeworms come from 2 places: 1. Fleas, 2. mice (so unless your puppy has eaten mice, he got them from fleas). The rescue may have actually dewormed him, but most dewormers won't get tapeworms, so take him and a stool sample to your vet and make sure there isn't anything else microscopically in that stool! (like a parasite called coccidia or giardia)
Dogs that drag their butts on the ground do NOT have worms, they have impacted anal glands that the vet can express and make the dog stop scooting. That is the oldest and dumbest wives tale out there!
There are NO pinworms in dogs or cats!!!! Horses, yes. Dogs, no!!!! Yes, people can get worms from their dogs - roundworms and hookworms can be zoonotic (transmitted to people) - and because we are not the normal host for these worms, they migrate aberrantly around our bodies... through our eyes causing blindness, through our brains causing death in some cases. All dogs should be on year round monthly heartworm prevention because they also deworm the dogs once a month and will prevent any of this!

Worms. Even though he was de-wormed, it is very common , especially in puppies, to re-infect themselves, or, may need several deworming treatments.I know this will sound odd, but sometimes puppies eat their own feces, and/ or if they are"cleaning" themselves, they can reinfect that way. However...You are first of all a true hero for getting your pup at a rescue.. That is very kind and generous of you. Second, if you have a vet appointment, that's great too. They'll take care of the worms, and all will be well. God Bless- Namaste" PS Remember to pick up all dog poop, cuz if it's around and available, be assured the new pup will find it, step in it, eat it, or other assosted puppy things**************

Young pups get worms all the time. Usually from the mothers milk at first.
Bring in a stool sample to your vets and they can tell you exactly what kind of worms they are. Then they can give you the right medication to treat your pup and get rid of the worms.
My vet charges 6 dollars for this kind of stool exam.

Dont worry, worms have nothing to do with the food (unless you are feeding raw and then it potentially can, but i assume you are not). Just take him to the vet and get him dewormed. Its nothing to worry about if you get him treated, its very common for puppies.

They are probably tapeworms. My first kitten I had, had them and wound up having roundworms too. Your vet will do a test and give your puppy the proper medication. I hope your puppy lives a long and happy life.
Here is a website on a dog owners guide and talks about the worms they can get:

Definitely take your pup to the vet. Shouldn't be anything to freak out about, normal for puppies, but he needs the doc.
And don't worry about the food.

Well for one thing, the food you're feeding is no good. It sounds like some kind of worm. It could be a hook worm. If the puppy drags his butt across the floor, then that's what it is. If you got the dog from a rescue place, definitely take the dog to the vet immediately to make sure it has no health problems.

round worms.
Sometimes a pup will discharge worms a few days after being treated for them.
The vet is your best bet.

Iams might be good food but I don't know about the company. Check out http://www.iamscruelty.com/ you might want to decide whether you want to support that kind of a company. Sorry I couldn't answer your actual question, but I thought I'd let you know about the food.

There are some types of worms, pinworms I think, that can be transmitted to humans. If the dog has worms ask the vet if you can catch them too.
