I am a full time working Mum. I left my partner two years ago and he has always earned good money, £800 per week being the minimum. Our daughter goes to a private school since she has slight special needs so this has to carry on. My problem is, we have always kept it amicable but since my ex has met someone new he is now threatening to stop the £600 per month he pays towards my rent. I cannot afford to live here on my wages and he is claiming he does not earn enough money to pay his rent, her school fees and my £600. I want to know what I am entitled to, I cannot live on tender hooks every month. He works with his father at times and is putting money in different accounts to make it look as if he does not earn that much, which I find really devious. I really didn't want it to go down this route but I feel I need to know how much I am entitled too since I could end up with nothing. His parents play a big part in sorting out his life so they are up to it all!!!!

You need to contact the Benefits office first and explain to them that your ex husband pays your rent and you will be homeless if he stops paying - they will assess if you are eligible for housing benefits which they will pay for you - there may be some shortfall in the amount between the rent and the housing benefit but if you are working and he is still providing for you daughter with a bit of luckj and a fair wind you will not lose the roof over your head.

Its a shame that men feel they can behave in this way - at the end of the day - he is providing for his child and should be man enough to stand up to his responsibility. My advice would be to do this the grown up way and sort out the rent rather than lower yourself by finding out what he is doing - if you really want to annoy him get the tax office onto him and they will investiate him!!!

Hi, Get the CSA on to him, and tell them what he is up to, where does he live ? is he renting or is he buying, if he lives with his parents they are not going to charge him much rent. What type of car does he drive? you cannot afford a good car on a very low wage. The CSA are not stupid, You have to stay one step ahead of some men. Also i know you pay for your daughters school, but is there not a local special needs school she could go to, where you don't have to pay there are some excellent special needs schools. That would save you some money. I hate it when men wont take responsibility, and try to diddle you. GOOD LUCK ......

You have no legal right to know what he earns. The only way to find out is to hand it to the CSA, who can ask for proof of all his earnings.
