If a guy you are seeing gets drunk and tells you he loves you, then retracts it the next day saying it was the alcohol, was he being honest when he said it? General consensus is that drunkardness makes you truthful, but whats your thoughts?

unfortunately !!!!!!!! YES , they can;t help themselves for some reason the alcohol takes away there inhibitions , but in the other way in AA tells us that while his inhibitions are gone south he has a tendency to say things he dosen't have strength to say sober so when it comes to that he is probably telling the truth,just has some fear issues as to what you will say,he is scared to be honest because his ego is in the way, he is afraid of rejection, when theres a good chance you like him, you two need to have a heart to heartand talk grownup talk and tell each other how you feel or think how you would like to see if things could be, don;t be to forward cause remember you are dealing with a man,who is a scared little boy inside, you have to work with him to bring it out, let me know how tghings go GGGOOOOOOOOOOODDDDD LUCJK!! you;ll do just fine remember honesty is best policy ,

If a guy says he loves you when he's drunk, but retracts it later saying it was the alcohol, then he was lying at the time. Guys say stuff like that when they're drunk because, to put it discreetly, they have an agenda.
While it's possible alcohol caused him to let his guard down, to think that he meant it (after retracting it while sober) is wishful thinking, i.e. you believe because you want to believe it. If a guy really loves you, whether he says it drunk or sober shouldn't matter.

oh honey, of course men (& women) lie when they're drunk. i'm sorry dear, but it's a very tough lesson to learn, especially if those are the words that you want to hear. i've had it happen to me. when he was drunk he would say "i love you..did you hear me?..i love you" EMPHATICALLY, but he didn't mean it and never said it sober (ie. during the DAY) and I waited and waited for him to say it for real, up until the day he married another woman. he was also a liar when sober, though. i, myself, am no more truthful when i have had a drink, but i can say that the b.s. rolls off my tongue, if i've had a few too many. hope you find out the TRUTH, either way.

Being drunk might make you more willing to say you love someone, but it doesn't mean that's how you feel when you are sober and have all your wits about you. Also what were you doing when he said it, if it involved sex in any way, you have to take that into consideration.

it probably was the alcohol. at the time he may have been lying or telling what he thought was the truth, but being drunk clouds your judgement and makes you believe things that you wouldnt believe when sober.

Mostly peoples 80 % don't say lie when they drunk. Many peoples drink alcohol because they have not enough courage to tell others their deep secrets that's why they drunk and tell everything.

Alcohol makes you incredibly relaxed so, in a way it maks you truthful. But don't hold him to anything he said while he was drunk because it also screws with your head.
