There is a cream called Emla which you can buy from the chemists and costs approx 3 quid and you only need half the tube. It's the cream they use in hospitals for kids who are scared/hate needles/injections and numbs the area. All you do is apply half the tube on the area you are wanting doing then cover it with a Tedgerderm plaster (75p) about an hour, hour and a half before you have the tattoo and it should completely numb the area and you will feel nothing.
Hope this helps

you can get a cream to numb the area but my brother who is a tattooist says most customers who have it don t really notice much difference it is like the cream they put on kids hands before they have an operation.
To be honest with you I think it is a waste of money and I have found with my tattoos the skin generally numbs it's self after a while. Give it a try by all means but I think you will be disappointed. What ever you do don,t have alcohol to steady your nerves most tattooists won't tattoo you if you are drunk as alcohol thins the blood.
Good luck

Of course they can put a numbing gel On it but because they needle is going in your skin it will be painful. A lot of my friends with tattoos say that the area that is being tattooed goes numb during the process.

As a rule no they don't. And a reputable tattoo studio will not even tat you if you have taken anything to relieve pain (including alcohol) in case of any complications or reactions. I have 4 and they are not that bad. After the first few minutes you get accustomed to it and it will be over before you know it, of course now depending on the size of the tat :-)

Listen honey,
If you can't handle the pain you're not destined for a real tattoo. Just get a friend draw one for you with marker pens or something.
It doesn't really hurt that much, but there really is more to a tattoo than a pretty picture on your body. A tattoo without any pain is a bit like really wanting to have a cute puppy to play with but not being able to look after it properly.

I used a cream called Ametop which I asked for in a chemist and it cost me about £2 and covers an area about the size of your hand. You have to put it on about 30 minutes before the tattoo and you don't rub it in, you also need to cover it with cling film too. It wears off after about 45 minutes.
I thought it was brilliant!!

There are pads with a numbing agent on them that you can buy at most tattoo parlours but really depending on the area they don't hurt that much at all. At first it is kinda a burning sensation then your nerve endings go numb to the constant stimulus then its a breeze.

I live in the US and I wasn't numbed before I got my tat. This is a tattoo hun, not mandatory surgery. If you don't want the pain, don't go under the needle.

Any pain is only short lived anyway - the area will go numb on its own.
