not sure about catholics, but protestants read them the same

they are applied differently because Jesus' death makes many old testament laws obsolete

Catholics see the Old Testament as a foreshadowing of the New Testament and the New Testament as a fulfillment of the Old Testament.

I recently asked a question as to whether the prophet Ezekiel was teaching something that contradicted the non-Catholic doctrine of "once saved, always saved". Many Non-Catholic Christians dismissed what Ezekiel said, even though he was a prophet of God, because it was Old Testament.

Many non-Catholic Christians ignore the Old Testament

I've been reading the Old Testament a lot more recently, seeking to understand it more. I learned Greek last year and that has greatly reinforced my understanding of the New Testament, but I hope to learn Hebrew sometime soon so that I can read it in its original language..... I prefer not to believe something unless I have seen convincing proof for myself, but for now I've been looking at the internal evidence of the Old Testament and seeking its meaning.

I'd say my overall reading is 90% New Testament, but in the past month it has been about 70% Old Testament, I have most of the New Testament memorized for lack of a better word.

Both are important but Salvation is in the New Testament -- the things in the Old Testament are written only for "our examples".

The Old Testament is a prelude to The New Testament. Both make reference to each other. Jesus quoted scripture from the O.T. Both are important and you can't really understand the new until you've read the old.

As a Christian I read both, however, follow the New Testament. Christians follow Jesus and believe the only way into heaven is through the son of God (Jesus) and Jesus' life is depicted through the New Testament. God bless****

Do you mean personally or in Church?

I'm Catholic and every Mass includes a reading from the Old Testament, one from the New Testament, one from the Gospel and one from the Psalms.

As far as personally, I imagine it depends on the person and not necessarily on the religion.

I am just reading the old testament and I am absolutely shocked at the story of genocide by the jews aided by god, it is really strange and makes me wonder if it is not actually about space aliens as there is nothing nice at all about it, actually I'm disgusted, and I was brought up a methodist - the old testament should be banned

I'm a Christian, and although both are important, I read mostly the New Testament, because the teachings of Jesus are very important.

I follow a daily course reading from the Lectionary when I say the Daily Office (Monastic Prayers) - and every day there is an equal number of readings from both.

However, for Lent, I am reading the Acts of the Apostles - so - right now I am reading a bit more NT.
