I am not advocating terroist attacks in any way ,but thinking about this purley objectivly why have A Q not attacked the States since Sept 01 .If the 9/11 attacks were meant to bring terror and fear to the American ppl it can only work if there are sustained attacks in hospitals ,railway stns, airports ,shopping malls and any other public places that way the ppl are frigtned to go out there door ,the US economy will suffer, tourism will drop off and security services will be stretched .Governments will be under massive pressure and could even collapse ,but one attack (however horrendous it was) 6 years ago is not going to make any difference to anyone other than those who suffered in that attack ,as the rest of America will have moved on ,the attack will be just a bad memory .
Like I say I do not want to see this kind of horror brought to anyones doorstep ,but what exactly was the point of 9/11?

I would recommend Prof. Fawaz Gerges who wrote the book "The Far Enemy: Why Jihad Went Global"

The original aim of the radical movements in the Middle East was to overthrow the harsh & autocratic regimes (the Near Enemy) but found that this didn't work. The reason, they figured, was because the regimes were supported by the US. So, Al-Qaeda decided to attack the military, political and economic symbols of the US (though it must be said that other radical groups in the Mid-East were against this idea).

Unfortunately, American response to Al-Qaeda has been short-sighted and Iraq (which never experienced suicide bombing) has been a terrible quagmire. Read also Prof. Robert Pape's book "Dying to Win".

We can only pray for peace. Sigh.....

9/11 was a one off revenge attack for the US (under Bill Clinton) bombing Bin Laden's medicine factory in the Sudan under the pretext that it was a chemical weapons facility. When it was inspected by international observers that it was in fact a medicine factory. No apology was given and no compensation paid. While I do not condone acts of violence against civilians of any sort, the facts should not be hidden. He was vexed and I do not think he was aiming for a sustained terror attack. This is the myth of Bush's war on terror. The American people are not being told the truth. Ask yourself this question. "Why did Bin Laden blow up the twin towers?" Some answers given , "They hate our freedom". Does that sound plausible?

Personally, I think it has many different facets, but one, I believe, is about ego. I think they wanted to bring war right to the US doorstep and on US soil to make Americans feel not as untouchable. To me, as an American, it only introduced the fact that there are some people who would like to kill me for what I believe in, what I think, and what I say. It was a foriegn concept to me, being an outspoken woman who is the head of her household. I've never been very patriotic, but I think I came to appreciate that I can speak my mind here and be who I want to be. It was a sad time, that's for sure, and I still think about it from time to time. How could anyone who has an ounce of compassion not feel that way watching people jump from the buildings, children screaming, seeing the towers fall on people who were just trying to make a living for their families. I won't let it just become that in my mind though. It reminds me of what I do have here, and to reach out to people in need. The days following the 9-11 attacks they had so many volunteers the red cross had to turn them away. The blood banks were never more full, and people donated as much money as they could. That is the true testament, in my opinion.

The point of 9/11 was to send a message to the United States that they were not safe from their reach. It was also an attack against our power in the form of our financial strength and military strength and our government power. The reason we've not been attacked again, although there have been several tries since that have all been thwarted, is that the terrorists underestimated our response. They expected the same appeasement like response that America offered evey other time since the end of WW2. All talk no action. We finally had a president in office who had some backbone and said enough is enough. We turned the tables on them and went on the offensive. We successfully cleaned them out in Afghanistan in short order, then went after a regime who was asked several hundred times diplomatically to stop their work in WMD's and the murder and opression of their own people, and to stop attacking other nations without cause. Those "diplomatic" requests were ignored. It was determined and agreed by the congress of both Democraps and Republicans that the existing regime in Iraq was a danger to the US, its allies, and the region in general. The leadership was unstable, was working to create various types of WMD's, was attacking its neighbors without cause, was allowing terrorists a place to train, was funding terrorists organizations, and supplying terrorists with supplies. So went went there to clean house too. We've got their attention alright, and a greater number of them are now concentrating on the conflict over there than are planning attacks that were not already in the advanced planning stages over here. Their numbers are dwindling as well. What you do not hear in the liberal left media are the number of terrorists we've eliminated during this conflict. They number in the hundreds of thousands. But the main stream media will not report those numbers, they'd rather harp on the negative numbers which are coparatively minescule.

I still feel they are lying in wait for the right time to attack again. Right now they know the security is very high and probably won't make another move for a while. but I will always remain terrified of what these cowards can do not only to the US, but other countries as well. Bush keeps sending more and more men over there. Maybe that's what they're waiting for,,,for our country to have less and less soldiers to fight if they come back here. How long do you think the original people who flew planes to bring down the towers were here? Months, years, what. I think they are still living among us and we don't know it. Unless one of them makes a huge mistake, we should all be on our guard. The United States has shown we will not tolerate terrorism and we will continue to show that to anyone who dares try again. I think it's time for our men to come home. There has been too much killing and I pray it will stop soon.

* It is a complete folishness to believe that Ibn Laden & his followers committed that desaster, as it required more plans & cooperation between air co. air ports security, civil , electronic enginers & intelligence to know all the required details.
* It is like hitting the Jackjpot.
* Ibn Laden was exhausted from fighting with Russia, while carrying his weapon on the mountains.
* US gave him that deress of terror & he accepted it, as it suited his aim in the reigon.
** It was an excuse for an invasion or to provoke one, depending on your point of view. Either way it was wildly successful. It was used as an excuse to get the Americans riled up enough so that they would allow any aggressive mesaures and now they are stuck ion Iraq with no rhyme or reason, and no way out.
* THAT ONLY DONE BY THE US INTELLIGENTS

It is impossible to know the mind of the people who planned the attacks in New York. I think it was an end in itself for them and they have no reason to complain about the consequences, intended or otherwise. The cost of the various responses to the US and the UK has been astronomical which has the potential to diminish their affluence and influence over time. It can only be assumed that this would align with Al Quaeda strategy.

They are playing the long game fool. Things are going according to their big plan. They have drawn the US into two wars which we are losing. They have dragged the US's reputation down the toilet. They have set things up so that all hell will break loose when Iran is attacked. And they stopped a few major attacks on the US because they wouldn't kill enough people. Think of it like your second album. The first was a hit, you want the second to be just as good or better. That's what they want for their second attack. They want it to be bigger.

becasue 9-11 and similar terrorist plots have been used as an excuse for the governments to institute a police state and severely restrict the liberty of citizens
