and i know it was a college but the fact still remains that most schoolbuses don't' even have seatbelts. Its not like they cost as much as 500 dollar computers throughout the school, its just a seatbelt, don't the public school systems care enough about the children to at least give them a seatbelt?

schools get something like 8-14 thousand dollars per year , per student, and they can't set back 5 bucks of those thousands for a lousy seatbelt??? that's a disgrace.

no, government should NOT outlaw handguns. Then the law abiding citizens would not have guns, and the criminals would. Sure you MIGHT not have had columbine. but how much MORE crime would there have been if all criminals know that no one walking down the street can defend him/her self? Criminals would do whatever they want then, with no fear. Guns aren't the problem, Lousy parenting was the problem for "columbine".

Are you kidding. School boards always looking to see how much of the state funded money they can save for themselves before the next check for schools comes in...
They say their primary concern is the student...I have never believed that line

dont know where youve been, but buses have had seatbelts since at least 1990. the problem is with wearing them, not availibility.only way to be sure somebody is still wearing a seatbelt is to either put an alarm on it ( which can be disarmed ) or having a lock and key ( which would mean the driver has to move back and forth inside the bus to unlock the passengers) if your gonna make a statement,ya might wanna actually look in a bus first. and if the local bus company responsible for the bus has removed them, then their liable for the deaths.also falling off a cliff, regardless of belted or not,is pretty much a moot point.

Sad situation..there are a lot of school busses already equipped with seat belts but unfortunatly it is one rule that cannot be enforced. Many parents refuse to allow their kids to be strapped in to a seat while on the bus. And if the parents do not support the ruling, it can not be enforced. Bottom line is that more parents should take a more positive role in thier kids lives when they are at school, going to school, or returning from school.

this argument comes up every single time there is a fatal school buss accident. For some unknown reason, the authorities won't make it law. I would sure hate to be the bus driver when they do though, because it's the driver who bears the responsibility to ensure everyone is properly secured in their seat. Kids being kids, it would be near impossible.

It should have been a law the minute the feds made all states comply. Just another fatal example of how little states' politicians care about our children. This country is going to hell in hand basket and no one seems to be able to stop it??
But let me ask you: Didn't you think automatic handguns would have been outlawed when all those children were murdered in Colorado??
The government doesn't care about its citizens anymore! And neither do any of these so-called politicians.

some school buses already come equipped with seat belts, however the bus crash i believe u are referring to waw not a school bus but a commercial bus (greyhound for example)...in school buses it would probably be a good idea and even on commercial buses but whos gonna make sure everyone buckles up

Nope. Seat beats save you from splatting on the windshield, going 60 miles in line with hour on the line. No college bus could be going that speedy, plus how might states have adequate funds to place in them? we are in a recession cough* Bush cough*
