Interesting question. There are many many times when this is exactly what the "fire and brimstone" statements are. Something used to intimidate, threaten, belittle and humiliate a person or group of people that some Christians are threatened by or disapprove of.
And when I see it I regard it as any other form of hate speech, and I resent the fact that it is used in this way so often, especially when used by "supposed" "Christian leaders.
Frankly its used all to often in my opinion. When even the Bible says that it isn't enough to become a Christian to stay out of hell, what good is threatening people with it, even when doing so in a "trying to keep you from walking off of a cliff" sort of way? After all there is much more to being a Christian than that isn't there?

I don't think it's fair to say this is a Christian form of hate speech. In a few other religions, there's also this concept about heaven and hell. Atheists also make this comment, and it's just a way to be rude to another person. I really don't see the correlation between this and Christianity.

You are going to perish if you do not accept God's gift of grace. God could have destroyed His creation again (save Noah and his family) with only a thought if He wanted to. You only have two choices to make and if you are not for God, you are against Him. So if a Christian is telling you your are going to perish in hell (the Lake of Fire) if you do not change and come to believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior who God has sent to reconcile us back to Him,...... it is not hate or a threat,........ it is a cold hard fact!

No it is just our perception of the after-life. According to our scriptures there will be two kingdoms and two rulers in the spiritual plane of existence inhabited by our souls. One is the Kingdom of Heaven ruled by Jesus Christ to the glory of God the Father. The other is the kingdom of hell ruled by satan. Man gets to choose where he will live.

People think that if they say what they are told by their religion then they are not responsible for the hate-filled words they are mouthing...Wrong!
Many Germans who staffed the Nazi death camps said they were just following orders too.
