Q1. To remove sodam insane and to stop the spread of al queda.

Q2. Vietnam was owned by France, but after WWII the north wanted independence. France could not afford to subdue the revolution on its own and asked for assistance from the U.S.
Being a good buddy, we complied.
President Roosevelt had contact with Ho chi min who led the revolution in Vietnam, and if Roosevelt would have not died in office at the end of WWII, he would have probably brokered a deal with Vietnam and France for independence. Roosevelt felt that independence from a foreign nation is not a bad thing, "no taxation without representation."
France pressured the U.S. that we are Allies and should always stand together as in the past.
The Soviet Union did not come into play until years later when an opportunity for revenue arose.
Too many rules of engagement from the politicians made the police action unwinnable. Let's not learn this lesson twice.

many restrictions were applied on our air force pilots because of the possibility of accidentally killing Russian military advisors that were there assisting the north...In general, it was all political...just a total mess
We could have gone in there and anniliated them but too many restrictions also killed the morale and prompted many soldiers to ask "why"? "What for then"?
By the way, it was never declared a war...

If you'll recall, it was the Reagan Administration that funded Sadaam's overthrowing of the leader before him.
The U.S. have always known and still know that you can't change the ways of the middle east as a whole. The real reason as to why we are there will be revealed after the history books have been rewritten a few times. Until then, your guess is as good as any. At the same time, your questions give hints of some measure of resentment from you...You should know that if we asked you questions of YOUR government, you can only guess...I doubt you understand your own government...which isn't perfect either.

America was in Vietnam fighting against the spread of communism. This was the primary goal, without question. The problem with the Vietnam war is that the public opinion turned tide quickly and it was virtually impossible for any president to sustain the necessary draft and funding for Vietnam. This was due to politics, America easily had the resources to continue fighting.

Simply put, America was unable to use the full extent of its arsenal, particularly because they were afraid that the Soviet Union would take advantage of their perceived weakness at that point in time. America could not resort to the same tactics as the Vietnamese, so there was a constant disadvantage. Beyond that, there could not be inhuman carpet bombing and scorched earth, because that would destroy any sense of moral righteousness involved in spreading democracy.

Now, America is in Iraq to spread democracy, but particularly to fight against Islamist fundamentalism. It's difficult to say that though, because then it looks like a full blown war of religion, not just a war of ideology.

no man or woman truly gained Vietnam, and an identical is going for Iraq. i don't have self belief you win a conflict. i have self belief you're taking action, and an effect comes, yet both aspect loose contained in the destiny, because a lot has been sacrifised. In Iraqs case, united statesa. occurs to be doing very undesirable. besides the undeniable fact that, we gained't say that we lost because Iraq is now a "loose u . s .."

We went in to Vietnam to bail out France, our ally. I'm not sure why France was there. We came in to Iraq to remove Saddam Hussein, and thus end 25 years of tyranny and genocide.

How is it a democracy, when a foreign nation topples the old government, and organizes a new one? Did the native people vote for this to happen?
