Check to see if you have a lot of applications at start up. Then, make sure you delete all your cookies and temporary internet files. Check to see if your system needs to be defragmented (this makes a world of difference). Lastly, go to the sites listed below and download the free software. It's safe and bundle free. I use them myslef and have been for a long time without any problems.

Xp is slow on P3 hence you will find slow running of the OS.

Other measures you can take:

CAUSE

This issue occurs if one of the following conditions is true: • You have spyware or malware running on the computer.
• You have viruses that are running on the computer.
• You do not have sufficient free space on the hard disk.
• You do not have sufficient random access memory (RAM) installed on the computer.
• You have corrupted or outdated drivers.
• You have too many files in the Recycle Bin or temporary folders.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use one or more of the following methods.

Run a current anti-spyware program on the computer

Run a current virus scanning program on the computer
Remove unused programs, increase the size of the hard disk, or remove programs from the hard disk so that you can install the programs on another hard disk
Upgrade the RAM

Examine Device Manager for old drivers and update them
Drivers can become outdated and possibly damaged to the point where they slow the system performance. To examine Device Manager for old drivers, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type the sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
3. Right-click the device, and then click Properties.
4. Click the Driver tab.
5. Compare the driver version on the Driver tab with the version information about the latest version of the driver that is released on the manufacturer's Web site.
To resolve the problems that are caused by corrupted or outdated drivers, install the latest drivers

Run the Disk Cleanup tool
To start the Disk Cleanup tool, click Start, click run, type cleanmgr.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.

DONT FORMAT!!!

Formatting will completley and permanantly erase ALL contents of your hardrive.

Try doing a disk cleanup or defragment, you can find these in the control panel. If that doesn't work move the files off of your C drive and onto a different drive. If you do not have a different drive than Back up your files and create one. (partitian magic) is one type of software that can do this.

Freeing up the space on the C drive means that windows will be able to run faster. Think of it as giving your operating system a little elbow room :)

format your pc
also windows xp is not designed to be handled by a p3
other things to consider are
dont use more than one user account on xp, if u use 2 or a visitors account then the system will run slower, also if you have antivirus called norton that crap will slow your pc by 50%

I know this is not the answer you want to hear.. But free software will do anything for you.. You need to upgrade your ram to at least 512.. 1 GB would be preferred for a P3.
