why would you choose your teenager's hobbies? a hobby is something a person ENJOYS doing and does for FUN. if you pick them out, how do you know if they like doing it? they may start to resent it, and actually start getting into something bad to rebel against you. Let kids choose thier own hobbies, unless it's something endangering like hanging out with kids that do drugs, stealing, etc or something else that could be harmful to the child or others. Re-inforce good hobbies like sewing or bowling, or singing, etc. Let them explore what they like/don't like and you'll keep them out of trouble.

If a teenager's hobbies are somehow detrimental to their health, are dangerous, or overly expensive, then parents should definitely voice their concerns. But otherwise yes, teenagers have a right to wisely choose their hobby as everyone else does.

Hobby- something a person does for personal satisfaction and enjoyment in their free time.
Parents should not interfere with their kid's choices of hobbies, and the teenager should pick a hobby himself/herself, if they desire to have one.
The only reason when parents should jump in is if the hobby is dangerous and destructive (ie smoking pot should not be encouraged as a hobby)

Why would you want to tell a teenager what they can and cannot do? A hobby is something someone enjoys, something they do to relax. Children are moldable, but jesus christ. You can' turn them into zombies or robots.
Teenagers choose their own hobbies, likes and dislikes. No one else.

all children should be allowed to chooses their own hobbies as long as it is safe, legal and not beyond a families financial reach. They should be allowed to explore as many hobbies as they can.

Yes, providing their parent or guardian agrees that it is safe, and can afford to provide the materials for this hobby.

look, kids want to be independent. its a teen you're talking about here, if you don't let them pick their own hobbies, theyre not going to like it. dont force them to do anything. My parents force me to go into sports, and I end up not liking that sport becuase its not fun for me anymore. im not doing it for me; im doing it for them.

If teens elect their hobby won't they be more interested and more likely to stick with it?
