It means something that happened unexpectedly, like when it is a sunny clear day, then all of a sudden clouds blow in and a downpour of rain starts. You could say that the storm came right out of nowhere. And the verb is comes, because even though it ends in the letter "s", news is singular.

Comes right out of nowhere:
1.it is told for people who came from a not very known place and become famous for something
2.if someone comes very suddenly

you tell your kids not to play near the road. accidents happen when a kid comes right out of nowhere and a car doesn't stop in time.

I would think it means you were clueless where it came from or it came from an unreliable source, perhaps.
