Pseudoephedrine is a nasal decongestant. Mary said it dries up nasal secretions, when in reality it doesn't; the antihistamine in these products is what dries up secretions. Pseudoephedrine has no effect on congestion in the lungs or the respiratory system.

it is a decongestant. you can buy it as it is (Sudafed) or together with another ingredient (claritin-d, mucinex-d)...except that bad people are using it to make methampetamine which is an illegal drug. that is why it is kept at the pharmacy and sales have to be recorded.

It's used in cold medications, as it dries up nasal secretions and coughs.
