im a bit confused cos one time i was talkin to a girl who sat behind me and we were laughing and smiling cos we were talking about a funny subject and we dont like each other(to the best of my knowledge), then all of a sudden the guy next to me says to both of us 'stop flirting with each other' i dunno if we were flirting or not, can anyone explain it a bit? thanks for the help

To flirt is to mean directly that you are either abusing or attracted sexually to the other without taking it seriously. And probably you were not a flirt this time but may be other times you would know it well if you want to be a romantic funny guy with lots of girls around.
take care lots of flirting makes you a player and a player sooner or later falls and it is the worst of all.

I agree you will know when flirting is occurring. Usually there is more of a goal to it other than a good laugh.
