It could also be heartburn. If you only get it when lying down have this checked out. You might have a hiatia hernia which is a fancy word for the valve from the esophagus to the stomach that is not closing well and the acid is coming up causing pain. Try sleeping high on pillows. Keep track of what you eat and the frequency of your attacks. Might be related.
If the pain is all day then it might be a muscular related problem. They can be very painful. If you have trouble breathing you should have it assessed right away. If you have pain down your left arm or loose eyesight in one eye or strength on one side of your body go asap to emergency.

That's where your stomach is.
Maybe you have stomach acid going into your esopahgus, or maybe even an ulcer.

Could also be an inflammation of the cartilage--painful, but not harmful and goes away. Anti inflammatories can help with the pain until it's over.

Not sure what you mean but it could be your lungs or abdomen. Have a doctor check it out.

Then again it could just be this pain that you usually get in your chest when you laugh real hard or when you start doing heavy exercises (like running really fast) all of a sudden, like exercises your body aint used to.
