The last time I practiced Ramadan was 4 years ago. I converted 5 years ago, but after my first year, I became pregnant and had to have food every few hours or so or else I would vomit. I tired that first couple of days and ended up having to be put on medication to stop my nausea and vomitting. The following year I was still nursing my daughter and needed to drink water constantly as she was solely nursing and not drinking th ewater would dehydrate me and stop my production of milk. The following year I was pregnant with my son. This past year I was nursing him and also in the hospital. The last time I practiced Ramadan, it was a great experience and I do plan on doing it this year if my son is not nursing.

The last time I practiced (spelled with a "c") Ramadan I was in Bahrain and I learned 2 things:

1) It's not just the restaurants that shut down during the day, all the shops in the mall close! Aaaarrrgggh! And there was a TGI Fridays in the parking lot!

2) Muslims don't take their own religion seriously. That's when I noticed that when the call to prayer comes, Muslims ignore it and continue shopping and going about their business.

I'm not Muslim myself, but even I can learn from the holiday!
