well... I own both a GSD (18 mo.) and a lab (5 mo.) (never experienced a dobbie so I can't comment on the breed). GSD's are a very intelligent dogs and are easy to train (with consistency) and are very devoted to their owners great with kids though they require a lot of socialization.
labs well...I love labs and they are sweet dogs great with kids and people, but I have to say they aren't the brightest crayons in the box because of their stubbornness. and they usually don't get out of the puppy stages until they are over 2 yrs.
both of these breeds require a lot of exercise and obedience classes and consistent training on your part, but they are wonderful breeds.

Either of the three can be great dogs, however, people are afraid of Dobermans and German Shepherds. The Labrador s a marvelous dog. Kind. Loving with kids and very protective. I am not a big dog fancier but if I was to adopt a big dog I would probably get a Lab.

All can be fine..but you cant just go by breed. All dogs are different. I've had a doberman and he was the sweetest dog and was wonderful with children. I grew up with labs are they are great as well but tend to be a little crazy the first few years. I now have a Black Shepherd mix who I think is crossed with a Black lab and she is also very sweet but a bit nuts.

If your dog will be able to get a lot of running exercise, a Labrador would be great..However, if room is limited, a German Shepherd Dog wold be the more appropriate, if you are getting a puppy..If they are adults, it would just be a matter of preference.
Dobermans are wonderful dogs, and I used to breed them..but they do need an experienced dog person to train them correctly.

All three are great dogs. I agree with Christina, Dobermans are superb, but they are not a good dog for a novice owner. A Doberman Pinscher is very intelligent, with tremendous strenght and stamina, they are fearless, assertive, devoted, loyal and very affectionate. But they also can be very head strong and need to be trained to know they are not the boss. Good luck on which ever dog you choose!!!

I've had two female dobermans in the last 25 years, both spayed, and they were two of the best dogs I've ever had. Smart, loyal, and protective of all members of the family, especially the kids. Neither one ever showed any signs of viciousness, no odd behavior at all.
My first one attacked and chased away a burglar once, she also jumped on and killed a rattlesnake one summer that was right in the path of my parents and kids as they were taking a walk in the field... she was a real precious hero in my book!
Good luck in whatever you decide to get.

Ok, well heres the thing it what you like. I have had all those breeds of dogs at least 4-5 times. And stuck with dobermans, since i was raised with them allll my life, and still have them.
1, if you like dogs that shed, pretty smart, a herding dog, or duck fetching dog, then A shep or lab is good for you =]
2, if you DONT like a dog that will protect your home naturally,97.9 % of dobes are PROVEN to be instinctivly PROTECTIVE to their owner, and sheds drastically less then both by more than 90%, and *designed* by a man who need protection, and and intelligent dog about 100 years ago and succeeded, medium built to fit in any home comfortably, most intelligent dog in the WORLD, and quoted to be, by the AKC, " Compactly built, muscular and powerful, for great endurance and speed. Elegant in appearance, of proud carriage, reflecting great nobility and temperament. Energetic, watchful, determined, alert, fearless, loyal and obedient." go look. http://www.akc.org/breeds/doberman_pinscher/
Then a doberman is not for you.
I just dont know how to tell you in any other way, a doberman is a really good dog. They are not "ferocious", they only get a bad rep from people who dont know how to raise them, like pitts. They are just dogs who can do alot of damage, and cause probelms when not trained right, or abused. And very scary looking, they are just dogs, who sometimes have stupid owners who dont know what their doing.

It is not the breed of dog that is the problem it is how they are socialized. All breeds of dogs have instances where they have problems. As long as you socialize your dog as a puppy (meaning introducing it to all races and sizes of people) your dog will most likely be a good dog. A good way to socialize your dog is to ask somebody to feed your puppy a treat and pet him.

all three breeds make wonderful pets, however the doberman tends to be more ferocious, but both the German Shepperd and the Labrador are loving, loyal and easy to train and are of good temperament. they are also good around children. i have a Labrador and she is just wonderful to have and a great companion for my grand son who loves to wrestle with her. but be advised that the lab is a high energy dog and likes to burn lots of energy.
i wish you the best, good luck.
