Luck

There is an even amount of luck and skill involved! You gotta be good enough to hit the shot but I'm a 2 handicap who has no hole in ones and 2 double eagles?? Go figure. I like the double eagles (2 on a par 5) but I want an ace! I ve seen some pretty bad players get an ace but length/accuracy for 2 shots is rarely luck.

LUCK. Look Alex Ovechkin got a hole in one his first time playing golf. He borrowed clubs from a friend and got extremely lucky. His swing is the second worst I have ever seen in front of Charles Barkley. I hope Alex reads this. I love him but he wasn't that good at golf. PERIOD.

Also Hondo that is AMAZING! Double eagle is more rare that an ace but takes a lot of guts and power. You need a lot more skill to drive 320+ yards then hit a long mid to long iron in the cup. You usally have to hit over hazards too.

Its luck.
My brother had been playing since he was about 10 Years old.
Today he is 21 and he barely got his 1st hole in one about 3 weeks ago.
He has also one the club championship at our golf course 2 times.
He is the longest hitter in our town and has shot an average of 6 under (66) this year so far.
If you ask me thats luck.
and i guess since Tiger Woods has over 19 Hole in Ones in his lifetime i guess he has a whole bunch of luck...but since hes #1 in the WORLD he might just be that good.

many factors to consider: I assume its a par three?
is it a par three, four, five?
how many yards to hole?
wind factors...
What club am I using?
is it a straight through hole ?
is it a dog leg, left-right?
is it sloped left, right, or in the middle?
what kind of traps/hazards does it have? (sand/water/trees)

Otherwise I would say it was 46% luck, 54% skill...skill always overides luck

It's usually the result of preparation. Like hitting a home run in baseball. You may luck one out of the park with your first at-bat, but it's not likely.

who is the person hitting the ball it all depends on that!!! if it was a new player you would say luck but an experienced player like Montgomery or woods you would have to say skill so that lot should answer it...!
