No such thing as pure english, even in england there is different accents and slang that is not common. There is also different uses of words and speech.

Effectivly correct english is the Queens english which is meant to be taught in schools.

Americans speak an version fo 16th century english with a scottish/irish tilt to the accent, however this has been corrupted with further with German, dutch , jewish italian and Icelandic words coming into the mix.

Canadians speak english with a french patois, Australians speak English with a cockney lilt and a strine all of their own.

New Zealenders strangle every vowel they can get their hands on.

Indians who speak it , speak a very clipped form and the Irish sing it.

English is growing and evolving everyday and the true form is getting harder to determine.

The Queen and her people speak correct form but this is very uncommon ...enen in England.

English is a bastardised language with roots in greek, latin, french , german, nordic, italian and flemish.

Any country that has set foot upon Englands shores has contributed to the language .

Mate if someone speaks to you in English and you understand them then that is the purest form you will get.

Good on ya mate , and a bloody ripper question.

Is there such a thing as "Best" or "Pure" English to begin with? Although, English evolves from Great Britain, however, even the different provinces speaks with a slight difference in slant and tune. To compound the fact better, the pronunciation differs from Ireland to Scotland and England.

There are many English speaking countries all over the world, from South Africa to United States to Singapore to Australia. All of which has its own distinct "taste" and "flavors" which i may say.

One should not be overtly concerned whether the subject of his language is "pure" or not, he/she should invest more effort in checking if his/her language is understood by others - Communication.

Communications lies intricately between listening and being understood, through the use of a common language.

There is no such thing. There is no central body governing the English language, like there is for French or German.

In the UK, the "Oxbridge" or "BBC" version of English probably has the highest level of credibility. But most of the English also butcher their own language, so it's really only this educated segment of society.

The worst would be any country that doesn't use English as its primary langauge.

I suppose, you could hear (or learn) some real good English from Oxford University dons, or some other old university in England.

I personally like British accent and think that educated English people (from England) do speak clear and beautiful English, though sadly mostly older generation...

OMG, what a lot of attitudes got unleashed here????

Isn't my namesake up there striving to be the proper Professor Higgins????

Well, just for your information, they've now arrived at what is called the Recieved Pronunciation which is supposed to be the Internationally accepted norm!

While Queens English is technically supposrd to be the correct one, it's now the RP that's acceptable.

A friend of mine, incidentally, is developing a Web Site to make it possible for you Easterners to cheaply acquire the RP!?

If you're interested, you could drop me an e-mail and I'll forward your address to him!

All the best!

Cheers!
