That it wasn't owned by a woman.
I never put oil in mine, its always running out of petrol and I dont treat it as a man would.the only time it gets serviced is when its broken down.

1 - Price
1A - Reliability
2 - Resale/Depreciation
3 - Practicality
4 - Cost of ownership (gas, insurance, maintenance)
Presumably you are not going to buy a vehicle that you do not like. It of course has to be comfortable and have the traits you are looking for (speed/comfort/mpg/styling).
I do not think I would buy a brand new car ever again. Not that the dealership experience is that bad, but you lose so much money on them. My latest purchase was a 1995 Lexus LS400 about 3 yrs ago. For the $12000 I spent on that instead of a crappy low end Kia or Hyundai, I got a lot more car. V8, Leather, good stereo and a lot more favorable comments. Lexus' are very reliable and hold their value. The non Toyota parts (i.e. Lexus LS only parts) are kind of pricey, but it has yet to leave me stranded. Even with 107k on the odometer, it does not burn or leak a drop of oil and I would not hesitate to drive it cross country.

Well I know what I kind of car I would want and then I have to think about the kind of car I can afford. Right now, with gas prices the way they are, I would look for something something with good gas mileage. I would look for something that I find visually appealing and something that would suit my needs. Will I be driving in the city or on country dirt roads? Will I be hauling or towing anything on a regular basis? What kind of car is reliable? I've heard good things about Japanese models. I would look for a car that I as well as passengers feel comfortable in. I'm really not too picky when it comes to stereos, because you can always upgrade later.

how many miles it has...a car only runs for 200,000 and then its prolly gonna need a new motor...so the price of a car depends on how many miles it has. u also want to check for any idiot lights. make sure the check engine light and oil lights and all that good stuff dont come on when u turn the car on. the yr of the car also changes the price and the kind of condition its in...if it has any scratches or dents. good luck with the new car...

you wonder if you really need that car, and of course fuel economy (price will always go up of fuel , might go down for a few weeks but will always continually rise), looks (if it would still look that nice in 5-10 years time), resale value, reviews, technology,

You look for features you WANT. You wouldn't purchase a small sedan when you will be pulling a horse trailer.

First of all the price an financing and how it will affect insurance premiums. Then, I check fuel economy, all the features, etc.
And of course, the color!
