Compulsory service would decrease (not increase) the readiness of the US military to respond to an escalation of the current standoff with Iran over the development of nuclear weapons.

Conscripts throughout history have crippled armies from within. The United States has had an "all volunteer" force since 1975. We benefit from our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines serving of their own free will. Compulsory service presents us with a military member who must "be there" but is not motivated to perform.

First and foremost, I hope and pray the diplomatic efforts currently underway, combined with economic pressures and incentives will ameliorate the current standoff with Iraq's saber-rattling neighbor. War should always be a step we resort to when all other means have been exhausted.

If, however we find ourselves ordered to engage to protect our national interests, I would prefer to do so with those who are serving under their own free will.

Nope, we have an all volunteer military. If a teen desires to enlist after high school, it is their choice. They must go if their unit is called up, no choice in the matter. Thanks to the men & women who volunteer I don't have to worry about any of my relatives being drafted.

In my opinion, we have a better chance of winning the war if we get the UN, politicians, & journalists off the battlefield in Iraq. Then, let the military do their job as they are trained. Kick butt, take names, & put the fear of Allah's warth into any insurgents. That will scare Iran & they won't be a problem

Bush did not attack anything. I am not for the war, I am for Democracy. Presidents were not able to start a war without the Vote of two Houses. The American People run the Government. We elect the people to represent us, we can un-elect them.
I am not ready to partake in or propose open rebellion. That is when Civility gets lost.
I think it was kinda cheap of Bush to take credits for fixing the Hospital, he packed it with his blood for oil war. It should not have been or ever gotten in such a state of pandemonium.
Go ROTC,Go to Canada or burn the Draft Cards that you are assigned then go to Canada. Just don't fight bush's wars and say they are Patriotic.
The Taliban really could be bad, but they were in Afghanistan, we had photos and dangit we trained that idiot osama. One rifle squad could have taken that guy out at the very start. War over.

I don't think that the service should be mandatory but I think everyone should volunteer to do something for 2 years. Peace corps, military, intern. SOMETHING

No. All US high school seniors should learn to fight against their tyrannical government. A revolution is brewing. Sooner or later you left wing hippies and right wing crazies are going to have to take up arms against a power hunger government in Washington DC. If voting wont stop the abuses of our liberties then our guns might just have to do the talking.
