Since I'm an atheist Republican, I would have to suppose that a Christian Democrat would be stranger; I'm strange, to be sure, but not THAT strange.

What a strange question! As more than 80% of the United States population claims to be Christian and about 50% claim to be Democrats, at least 60% of Democrats must be Christian even if every Republican were one - which would not be true.
I would have thought that the policies of the Republicans were antithetical to the teachings of Christ so a Christian Republican would be an oxymoron.

I'm a Christian and a democrat. Not a total democrat but for the most part.

Neither: there are plenty of both.
You forget: One of the strongest blocks in the democratic party are black churches (ever hear of Jesse Jackson?).
There is a large split in the republican party between the religious right and the fiscal conservatives.The latter are secular and functionally agnostic with a heavy libertarian streak.

Being republican is strange enough and mixing it with atheism is nothing but satanic. A Christian democrat is simply human...a lot short of being satanic
