My personal favourite is the Travelodge at Docklands, London. It is within walking distance of some good pubs and restaurants, it is right by the river and the DLR ( light railway system) is very close so you can hop over to the shopping complex also. It has a secure car park and if you book early enough in advance, their Supersaver rate is only £15.

have a look at the site, but make sure you know where you are going as they sometimes overbook and send you to the next hotel

I have been to Southampton, Cheltenham & Bournemouth. Bournemouth's was by far the best (even though we got kicked out haha).
