If he is a smoker, then the answer is obvious. If he does not smoke, the cough could be due to poor health, or an unsafe work environment (i.e does not wear respiratory equipment in a dusty environment).

There can be a vast array of reasons why he has a cough. First step is to talk to him and try to identify any obvious causes. Second step is for him to visit a doctor and get it checked out. You can't force him to do it, but it may help if you volunteer to go with him. Good luck...

Don't share chocolate with him. It aggravates the cough. For situations where coughing is very disturbing have him use a spray that stops coughing.... but otherwise coughing is necessary to get rid of the mucus in the lungs. An expectorant like Robitussin is also good.... it helps him get rid of whatever is accumulated in his lungs and with it he actually coughs productively. There are also cough candies. Maybe he has a chronic bronchitis or asthma... what did his doctor say?

Any chance he's taking blood pressure medication. I had a chronic, productive cough for nine months. Turns out, I can't take ACE inhibitor blood pressure medication. I now take AVAPRO and do okay. My bp is still a little high. If he's on blood pressure medication....he needs to mention this cough to his doctor. And mention my comment too!

Take him to the doctor and see if he needs to be referred to an allergist. It sounds like he may environmental allergies. Also, try liquid echinacea (you can get it at a health food store and the liquid is much more effective than the tablets). It will help with a cold, but will not help with allergies. Good luck.

Hmmm. Does he smoke? Theres nothing you can really do... maybe keep a pack of halls or other cough medicine in your purse so that when the itch comes on you won't feel as bad for him.

My mom gave me the following recipe which she said worked for her cold:
Make a cup of tea with:
2 garlic sections(not the whole garlic)
1 laurel leaf
1 cinnamon stick
pepper
honey
and take with 2 aspirins. I know it sounds gross but she says it wasn't so bad.
Or, take a ton of vitamin C and lots of fluids. He should take vitamin C everyday anyway and like garlic capsules, they're very good for keeping him healthy. Also, does he get enough rest? This may be why he gets them so often. Good luck and would you let me know if the tea worked?

Perhaps you have to address the REASON for his cough and deal with that effectively. Some people cough when they are nervous, yet some when they are sick.

Caughing all the time does not sound normal. As your are not a doctor you really cant do anything for him in a medical way. But, as someone who cares, you should tell him how worried you are and could he please see a doctor so you can stop worrying. If you put it that way, maybe he will go.

Need to take him for a medical check up for his immune system and a total blood count.
