I have met several guys and all but one was married and said they were single. how can you tell?

They probaly lie because they want to make out with you.
You can't always tell at first when they are lying. The best thing to do is not have sex with him. If his heart is in the wrong place and he can't make out with you then he will get frustrated and move on to find an easier victim. Use a man's sexual drive against him.

It's not just men- it's women too! I tried going on a certain site in the past and met someone who was married and I had no idea and I have had all kinds of problems since! Either way, it's not very ethical or nice when either of the sexes lie about this and their partner finds out and makes your life miserable for this kind of unethical behaviour when it's not your fault! This kind of behaviour should be considered criminal, especially when people like you mention ruin other innocent peoples' lives who are looking for single people for a date!

Well, it's because they are liars and cheats and they want to use you. Not all men, of course, are cheating on their wives but you were lucky enough to meet more then your share of them.
The best way to weed them out is to not jump into bed with a guy too soon. Make them wait until you know them a little better then ask them for their address and phone number. If they won't give it to you then dump them. Even if they do give it to you (some guys are pretty bold) call the number and, if a woman answers ask who you are talking to then ask for Mr. Your Boyfriend. When he answers tell him what he can do with himself and hang up.
If he answers you can suggest that you'd like to come and pick him up for a movie. Don't commit yourself to spending a lot of time at his house because, at this point, you just want to find out if he's married.
This may seem like a lot of work but it's cheaper then having to pay someone to find out if he's married or falling in love with a married man and then having his wife call you and blame YOU for her husbands lack or morals.

There is a fire to courtship that dies in a prolonged relationship. Those men were trying to recapture that fire with you. Think of it like acting or role playing. If you are in need of this fire as well, what does it matter if they are married? Go through the motions, have a good time but cut it off before it becomes serious. He will have recaptured the fire and it might reinvigorate his marriage and you will have had a wonderful date with someone who needs you more than any husband ever will.

i dont think you can really tell until you get to know them on a more personal level. cause some men dont even wear their wedding rings which symbolizes that he is married. but why they lie is beyond me. i think the real question is why are they married in the first place if they want to pretend they are single.

They lack guts and not fearless to reveal that he likes you though he has an affair or a wife.
I do not see any reason to lie about the feeling for you , never the less I am married or got a girl friend.
The feeling so called liking or love got to be genuine from the bottom of one's heart.

Ok, just kidding, I'm gender mud-slinging. :-) Truth is, you can't always tell. Sometimes men behave like gentleman under the circumstances. If you get to know them as much as you can before getting involved, it will be easier to find hints of a double life.

Problem with the last answer is people who work at a company like mine where not even wedding rings are allowed to be worn, therefore we do not wear our ring and their are no tan lines.

Look them in their eyes, if they cannot or do not see you overnight thats a sign, tan line or dent in wedding ring finger, if they mind if you call them after a certain hour or talk quietly when you call or act rushed. Some men are cheaters some are not.
