I got these new shelves to hang in my laundry room and I can't decide if I should put the screws in the drywall or the studs.

Wow, nice title...got my attention. Definitely "screw" the screws into the studs, drywall is similar to plaster and doesn't offer much weight baring strength. Studs are 2x4, 2x 6 etc. pieces of solid wood, are strong and can hold your shelves and items. You can locate studs by tapping on the wall until you hear a solid sound or buy a stud finder.

Studs are the best choice for screwing. That's almost as good as your question...

But, if the studs don't line up with what you want to do, then get some of the spiral screw-in drywall anchors. They are easy to use and will hold quite a bit of weight.

Try to screw into the studs, but if you must go into the drywall, be sure to use anchors. Make sure the anchors you use are rated for the load you are putting up. Myself, I prefer the butterfly anchors.

studs offer more support. that way you can put heavier stuff on the shelves and wont have to worry about the shelf breaking off from the wall and everything spilling everywhere. thats a nasty mess.

definetly go with screwing into the studs.

well you certainly got my attention! always try to line up with the studs for better support, if you have to go into drywall, then the sinker (or butterfly) will need to be used to support any weight on the shelves. good luck on your project

Definitely the studs...That way the shelves the you put up are nice and secure and will never fall down when you load them up with stuff....

Which is stronger, drywall or a peice of wood?

Sounds like rocket science to me.
