Do you think one can get used to it over time?

I'd say it's pretty normal to be apprehensive about it at first. But yes, you probably could get used to it over time, and training will help condition you to bear more pain.

However, if you don't ever get used to it, then MMA probably is not for you.

Good luck.

Yes you will get over it, and you need to if your going to live in the world. And for future refrence don't ever tell another man that you feel scared or anything like that. Not because your trying to hold up some myth or image, but....if your going to be a warrior, holding your mental toughness is just as, if not more important, than your physical toughness. Mma is the **** good luck. Me I know I have a while to go before I'm ready to compete on that level but I wish you the best. =] Read the book "HAGAKURE" The way of the samurai read "NINJA MIND CONTROL" by ashita kim I think...

u could go with the 1st person... if u afraid of gettin hurt... fighting is not for u... dont do something u're not really comfortable with
however.. if u are gonna be a MMA fighter, usually your trainer is gonna condition u
which means it prepares your body for pain, and strengtens it
otherwords an average person would get hurt in fight against martial art experts, but yo body would of been already prepared to take such pain to where it wouldnt hurt as much
example, most conditioning enables your muscles to be tighten up or stronger to where u can do more damage and take less
yea u get use to pain from conditioning.. u dont go into battle witout your swords and shield
my forearms use to be very painful and weak until i kept hittin them on wood or wit another person's forearm training, and now they are almost as strong as a wooden bat
training and practice will take your fear away

MMA isn't for you then.

Pain may not be as bad as you though it would be. But yes you WILL get hurt from time to time and believe it or not, most injuries actually come from training and not allowing injuries heal enough.

Plus it's very likely you'll get at least a couple pain that you'll carry with you for rest of your life such as stiff knee in morning, stiff neck, joints that have weird squeaky feeling, senstive spot, etc....

I am in the same position as you, in that I am interested in joining. However, I have no fear of getting hurt, and in a sick kind of way I enjoy it. My gut tells me that this is part of what it takes to get into MMA.

That being said, I do not think it is right for you. If you are timid about getting hurt, you will wind up getting beat up even worse.
