I'm going to keep this simple: humans evolved from apes. The reason there are still apes is because not every ape species evolved. The ones that did are no longer in existence. There is no reasonable human being with even a moderate level of intelligence that believes the world was created as it states in the Bible (sorry all of you who believe that). The Bible, well, I should say the Old Testament, is a collection of myths and legends as to how the world came to be. Every group of people and ancient civilization had these types of myths. Why people still believe the ones in the Old Testament I'll never understand. Don't get me wrong, I believe in Jesus, and the Gospel of Matthew is excellent, but the rest is pretty much pointless (if you're a Christian that is.) See, when we humans figure stuff out that answers questions posed from the Bible, then the explanation in the Bible for that question is proven to be a fable (i.e. how the earth came to be, where humans came from, dinosaurs, etc.) Keep in mind, Galileo was actually exiled from Italy by the church as a heretic for saying that the world was round. There are actually people that think dinosaurs didn't exist because they weren't mentioned in the Bible. It's actually pretty sad. The Bible was written over 2000 years ago, and the timelines are proven wrong by radio-carbon dating. The lessons in it may still apply, but there is no literal meaning to it. Divine Creation is an inarguable topic. It is a ludicrous notion. I am not saying science has all the answers, but the answers it has replace those conjured up in a 2000 + year old collection of myths.

You are facing a big area called epistemology.
Epistemology is the study of the acquisition of knowledge.
The basic epistemological question is "How do I know I know that?"
With your questions the difficulty is not so much that you will get different answers, as that those giving them will have different sources of information, seen by each as true, but to a fair degree incompatible.
Is the bible reliable? Which version of interpreting it should be used? Is Science reliable, or is it based on unstated assumptions? Is personal experience reliable, or do emotions and instincts often go astray?
It was a shock to me, at school, when I was told to cross a page out of a text-book, "because it was wrong" . Until that point I had naively believed what I was told, what I read. The realisation that "reliable sources" could be wrong was a revelation, and disturbing. And it gets more difficult... How did the tracher know that that page was wrong? What was he trusting?
I was a Christian. I now believe the evidence points to no god, and an ancient universe with no creator. The evolution of life as an accident, a wonderful accident.
But to explain how I came to that would take a long time.
And others have counted and weighed the evidence differently.

pink9364: Catholicism is the first religion? Then what do you make of Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism, and countless other isms that have existed throughout time? What about Islam? What about the Baha'i Faith? God's religions didn't start with Rome, neither did He start with Christianity. Christianity is one bead in a chain of religions that He's created throughout time.
Evolution? Yes. Human evolution? Yes, but not as most would think. We are our own species. Man has evolved, but as more and more advanced forms of man, not of ape. Otherwise, why do we still have apes?
Big Bang? Yes, it's very possible. There's more evidence of BB than there is of six 24-hr periods.
God created everything... Big Bang, human evolution, and yes, even other religions. Ooooooooo!!!

Evolution is real. Genesis correctly translated is 7 periods of time not 7 days. Astronomy shows the universe is still expanding. If you stopped hating science you could see the beauty of God's natural laws. God's natural laws are unwavering The idea that the Omnipotent Creator had to actually sit down and mold people out of clay is something that our ancestors came up with when they lacked the tools to test their world. Why does it seem so crazy that God could inspire science?

Draw a line between religion and spirituality. Religion is political and to say the least nonspiritual. Spirituality is seeking to understand life and how we got here , based on facts not fiction. Evolution is a fact of life , seeking to understand if there is a God at all and how life could be found in other planets and all the works of science and spiritual higher consciousness is spiritual . Religion like Christianity and Islam are here to created division and make up a God to fear and obey, even when you are ordered to kill infidels. So seeking to understand evolution and using the works of science is noble . Religion has failed.

God did not create religions. We did, to explain what we didn't understand. If there is a creator, the creator would have set in motion all the things we know happened to put things in action. The big bang, evolution, ape like ancestors, all that.
Just because there may be a creator (I believe there is) doesn't mean that creator conforms to any certain religion.
We are putting limits on God with religion.

Hi Rebecca,
GOD created everything that we need in six days. We find this in Genesis. HE started the Jewish religion and Christ was prophesied throughout the Old Testament. Christ is our Eternal Savior and the one who came to fulfill the Old Testament Law. HIS CHURCH is the New Testament Church of the First Century. We are to follow what is written there. There is NO OTHER Gods or messiahs that are to come or will ever replace Jesus. HE will come to judge all of mankind according to the scriptures. The scriptures say that "GOD can not lie." This is a fact. There is only one true religion in this day and age, that is Pure and simple Christianity. Everything that we need to live our lives is found in the New Testament. Read, study, and obey GOD's WORD so that you too may be in Heaven when the time comes. If you are interested in getting assistance in studying HIS HOLY WORD send a note and I will do so. Have a great day!
Thanks,
Eds
EDIT: The Roman Catholics were NOT the first religion. They were not even close to being what Christ's Apostles worshipped as in the first century church. They are another of man's inventions and evil doings. They have distorted Christianity so much that it is not even close to what the BIBLE teaches. The heads of the Catholic church are writing their own books instead of using the Biblical references to make decisions. GOD will judge them as HE does each of us.

evolution is a thing that can be proved or disproved A.K.A. a fact.
EXAMPLE:
Chihuahua = wolf
think of this algebraically. Everything on one side of the equation must equal something on the other side of the equation or else it is unbalanced and is wrong.
this problem seems as though there is something missing...
as for your god creating my religion. I guess i will take the low road you probably did not exist when i was created so your god could not have created me. so in some odd conclusion that there must be an explanation to this reality. I really wouldn't want to guess as to your but I know mine so as far as the stone is thrown I am correct. A.E. in your mind you are correct. So think what you want.

I think that you need to study....not only science, but religions as well. You seem to be a bit confused.....so find out the real information that's out there and see what works for you.
God did not create religions....man did. None are wrong and none are right. All rivers flow to the sea.

And if you omit god ,evolution , and the big bang what you have left is obvious and real . why can't people just learn to deal with that in the present without uncertain distractions of dubious means.Science and religion are branches of the same tree but
all of this is irrelevant and has nothing to do with the price of eggs in china .I recommend concentrating on ignoring the ignorant and indeterminable and learning what is best in word deed and action for your life in the present.
"All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree."
