My daughter is 7 and her and her friends are very much into PETSHOPS - the little plastic animals - there are tons of them - anything from turtles to dogs, cats and kola bears ... There are also; the play houses you can get w/them Vets, playground etc..

If she's like most little girls, she probably already has a ton of Barbies and ponies. My daughter is 7 and this was the best gift she got for her birthday last year: Go to an arts and craft store. Buy one of those organizers with several compartments. Then buy stuff to fill the compartments, beads, spangles, craft glue, pieces of felt, the string they sell to string the beads onto, clasps to close necklaces or bracelets that she makes, and don't forget letter beads, they love to make things with their names on them. Look around and see what else is there, tiny little teddy bears or other things she can glue onto something as decorations, and don't forget some markers and paints. Your niece will love it, and since you put it together yourself, she won't end up getting several more of them, yours will be an original gift.

They love to do crafts at this age. If she has much younger siblings, be careful about getting things with tiny pieces as she will forget to make sure everything is put up out of their reach.(my kids are 7 & 2) Mine also love Barbie & Bratz...I hated that stuff but wanted cars and fishing poles at 7. Is she a tomboy or prissy?
Also the gift of time if you live close enough. Give her a certificate to spend time with you...going to the mall, musuem, out to eat, anything that isn't an everyday thing. It's fun and memoriable, also won't end up broken of stuffed in the toybox or closet.
Hope I helped!

Some good answers there. Just wanted to interject that there is no company that can legally name a star after you - you're paying 50 bucks or more for a fake certificate. Stars are named by the International Astronomical Union only, and they don't name them after people. It's all numbers at this point, so don't waste your money on a scam.

Well, what does she like? Is she a reader? Does she like animals? Sports? Dance? You have to think about her as an individual. If you know little about her, then I'd say get something safe: a board game, a book, something having to do with crafts. I would stay away from clothing because kids can be very picky at this age. Good luck.

They aren't too expensive, but, goodness, 7 year olds really like getting a four-man sized pop up tent, a real one. They play with them in their yards, on their patios, in their bedrooms, etc. Walmart has some nice ones. Another idea is a Smithsonian Toys microscope that hooks up to the PC for monitor-sized images of stuff children put on a slide. Walmart has 'em, too. Having a star officially named after them is cool. They like that. And, let's see . . .oh, yes, "Child Life" magazine subscription at that age is always liked.

I have an 8 year old sister. At that age, anything with makeup and dressup is great! She also likes Bratz dolls. They are like the modern day form of Barbie's. She also loves these kits you can buy at any toy store that are fulll of lipstick, glitter, nailpolish, blush, anything! She also loves to get arts and crafts that she can play with and color and draw and stuff like that. Good Luck!

I am a teacher and have a whole class full of 6 and 7 year olds and lots of the girls bring to school their little sets of nail polish and lip gloss and sparkly glitter for their skin.

They also love any kinds of dolls that they can dress up in different clothes.

You might also be able to get you niece a dress up costume for herself. A lot of girls this age would love to dress up in fairy wings, or as a princess, you can often buy kid's costume sets from the toy shop.

How about taking her out to dinner or a movie by herself? My niece is almost 7, and I plan to do this with her. A night out without her little sister, doing big-girl stuff is always a hit with her.

depends what she is into. Mine is 7 and doesn't like Barbie (or horses as one said all girls are into). Things my daughter likes

art and craft
watercolour pencils (you draw and go over with water and paintbrush and they come up like paint)
beads on her door
Beanie kids (loves these)
net for over her bed
sports equipment (blades scooter etc.)
hair accessoris
purse and handbag
earings
jewlery
smiggle store (don't know if you have these stores, it's the lastest "in" thing her)
girly cushions
clothes
Fairy books (ruby the red fairy etc.)
