Honda Accord or Honda Civics are all around great cars. Even the Honda Odyssey is pretty good. If you want something that feels really sticky to the road consider getting a BMW. They feel planted on the road. Maybe because they are so heavy. You want something that you feel safe in.

That depends on you and your tastes. Do you want a race car, sports car, sedan, convertible???? A fast one, a safe one?
First decide what you want, then do your research, check consumer reports, check at the dealerships, see what you like about the different models. Get what you can afford, and what you like. Not always easy to do, so make compromises.

a Shrinkolamobile. They were last produced by the Edsel Company in 1941, but they are propelled by their exhaust fumes, entirely! They have the politically correct tail fins, and all the AM or BM radio channels you could expect!
