free up some space from the C drive/partition. You can copy all files from My Documents folder onto cd/s and delete them from the hard disk. Also run a free program called awc personal free edition, it frees some space by deleting unneeded temp files.

Get more RAM.

But if that's not an option, make sure you have plenty of hard disk space available. Windows should be increasing the virtual memory settings for you each time the message shows up.

To make sure it is doing that, go to Start and right click on My Computer. Click the Advance tab, then on the settings button in the performance area, then on the Advanced tab again. Click on the Change button at the bottom and make sure it's set to System Managed.

If you get a message that your virtual memory is too low then you can do the following: -
-------------------------------------For Windows 98-----------------------------------
1. Right click the my computer icon
2. Click the properties button
3. Click the performance tab
4. Click the virtual memory button
5. Click the let me specify my own virtaul memory settings option
6. Change the maxium memory to 800 mb
7. Click ok
8. Click yes in the restart prompt box
9. Now it will be ok
------------------------------------------For windows xp---------------------------------------
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.
1.Open System in Control Panel.
2.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
3.On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
4.Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
5.Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size, and type a new paging file size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set.

If you decrease the size of either the initial or maximum page file settings, you must restart your computer to see the effects of those changes. Increases typically do not require a restart.

For additional info in windows XP
1.go to start
2.select help and support option

Beyond the other valid suggestions, go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools and use the Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter tools. While the second will not give you more disk space (the first will), it will organize it better. On a large disk drive it may take an hour or more, especially the first time. Also check your recycle bin and empty that.

Grab a hammer and go to town!!!

Actually, I have no idea. It sounds like you need more memory, so go get some more memory. I don't think anything else will solve the problem, except the hammer.

Let your computer do its thing for a few minutes then try using it again. If the problem continues, you may need to defragment the C drive. If that still doesn't solve the problem, you may need to upgrade your RAM.
