I've been reading Sylvia Brown and other books on Mastery of the Soul to try to understand the big picture.

Sounds like a chemical thinking thing to me.
Sylvia Brown is not of God.
She is a false prophet.Her gift is not of God.
Follow her ,you will end up in hell.
Her gift doesn't line up with the Bible.
Her fruit is rotten.Please use wisdom.

Discern what you read with the Bible. This definitely does not follow the teaching of The Word of God. Steer clear of this deception of the liar, satan himself. Many claims are made, but if it goes against the TRUTH that is in The Word of God, then it's a lie from the pit of hell. Do not allow satan to mess with your mind. The big picture is The Bible for all to read. Your big picture is getting bad reception. TURN IT OFF and change the channel!!

if you pick college courses to get the most out of them and move on to careers, then, yes. for myself I do believe we choose our lives beforehand. I see earth as a school and its lessons to allow us to finish our journeys and eventually become a part of all that is god. there is not just one lesson unless overall learning to live and let live. we must experience the races, the sexes, and possibly other things. the lessons of the earth are many and varied.

If you really want to understand the big picture, throw those books away and read your Bible--those books directly contradict what God has written to help you understand.

No. I doubt anyone would choose to starve or to be abused. But I do believe that to some degree we were "called" to certain lives, and that possibly we knew some of the things we would face when down here. I believe that God will also include the level of difficulty and our opportunities in his judgement of us.
