Scientifically speaking, surely the egg came first, since any animal must start developing from a few cells. Like, a human baby just doesn't appear with head, arms and legs but requires an egg + sperm + 9 months, then you get a baby.
Now where did the egg come from? I think mutation of some biological matter in the early days after the planet Earth was created and the evolution over millions of years. (This is, of course, if you believe in Darwin.) Now if you class those first few cells as a primative "egg", then the egg came first to develop into a bird like animal, which in turn lays more eggs. But this is more of a question of where did life come from.
So to answer the question whether the type of modern bird, the chicken, or whether the present day egg came first, it's probably the egg, because two different species not called chicken probably mated, then made an egg which developed into what we now call a chicken.
