a cook should always wear a hairnet and/or a hat when cooking to stop hair falling into food

Gloves, an apron and potholders is about it. Putting lids on what you're cooking is a bright idea. Opening bottles and cans over the sink is a safety notion. Having all your dinner guests wear HazMat suits might be a trifle overkill, but why take chances?

you can wear an apron as a cover for your clothing, or some people use a dish towel tied around their waist. Whatever you use, it should be changed often, as when you wipe your hands on it, you could be passing on germs that will then transfer to your food. This also applies to your dishcloth. Keep your dishcloth clean, rinse it out in bleach as it can carry many germs from wiping kitchen surfaces. After soaking it in bleach, wipe over your kitchen counters etc, and this will help to keep your kitchen free of germs.

make sure your oven is bolted down so it won't fall on top of you and always lift with your legs !!!
It would be great if you had a chefs glove so you don't lose a finger!
