My first reaction is that maybe you are going to the wrong church. Perhaps yopu need to pray and ask Jesus to lead you to a church where people care and live for Him and let Him live and be at home in them and do what He wants to do. As long as there are imperfect humans in it no church will be perfect but there are some groups of believers who do a lot more of being Jesus with skin on than of sitting listening to a hired hand putting on a performance. I'm not against pastor's being paid because the servant is worthy of his reward just as the ox that treds the grain should not be muzzled. However I also am not in favor of some elite position but someone who is really equipping the saints for the work of the ministry as part of a real 5 fold ministry. The saints - believers- need to be trained and equipped and encouraged to live each day as Jesus did letting Him reach out in love through them.
3 web sites you may like places that are in some extent doing what you are talking about.

I am a Christian and I have been for most of my life. I am only 14, but let me explain some simple things to you. Not every preacher is going to be the best examples, they are human and NO ONE is perfect.
You have to look for those Christians that aren't weird. If you want to learn about the teen movement on how to follow Christ even in to the worst, read Battle Cry by Ron Luce. It is totally packed with stuff about everything your explaining...
Hope I helped! :)

Not all Christians are like that. Read up on the Mormons; we're all basically unpaid, are very charitable [and yes, even to non-Mormons], and have a stellar [and effective] system to help the poor become self-reliant. Now I'm not saying that we're the only ones, but we do a good job.

I'm all for Christians acting like Jesus.
Good luck getting that to happen. No one has acted like Jesus since Francesco Bernadone of Assisi.
Human nature being what it is, I expect that Evangelical Fascists will always act like Pharisees.
If you tried to act like Jesus and attracted a large number of people who wanted to act the same, the Evangelical Fascists would proclaim "Blasphemy! You are not the Son of God!" and sweep you from the face of the Earth.
They would not crucify you, of course. That would be a form of acknowledgement that you have succeeded in your quest. Instead you will quietly disappear, or be assassinated by one of their shills who claims to be one of your followers.
With such apparent dissension in the ranks, the movement would fall apart. The modern Pharisees have learned from the mistakes of their ancestors.
I hope you succeed for your sake. I wish you well.

I'm not really "christian" (at least in the whole religion sense of the word), but I totally love your view point. Rock on! And I hope this makes a few people think about what the believe in and how it applies to modern society.

Dude, if you don't feel comfortable, you don't have to follow Christianity. Perhaps you can follow islam.. but any questions like this can split your head from neck.. remember the simple pencil sketches cartoonist drew at Denmark, last year..
Good luck, new muslim friend. Stay away from Jesus. Jesus is mine.

As a born again Christian, I witness to people the true Gospel of Jesus Christ and I hand out tracts, and even buy Bibles for those who want one but don't have one. A really true saved born again Christian will always enjoy listening to a pastor and what they have to say. It is the not saved and unbelievers that have no idea what is going on.

You know that Christians aren't born Christ-like. Even the apostles, the ones that Jesus was closest to, disputed Christ's actions, and when He was in His toughest of trials, they were either sleeping or fishing.
We, christians, are cowards. We can't take up our cross daily to follow Him. We take up a few nails at best.
But there are a few. Read Jesus Freaks by DC Talk.

My goodness. I think you need to branch out a little. The church I attend reaches all over the world, not only to spread the gospel, but to help people in many ways. And thousands of other Christian churches do exactly the same things.
Open your eyes a little...Christians are quietly doing these things...and have been doing them....for a very long time.
