In the state of Texas you must work in order to keep your benefits. Or must be doing an active work search, and they do check to make sure that people are looking for jobs, even if one has a job if their not making enough money they have to be in college or checking in with texas work source everyweek. They do not just give away money to everyone and it can be quite hard to get welfare too.

Yes, I know what you mean. I also live in Texas, and my sister relocated there after Hurricane Katrina, and she went through a lot to get welfare. But she also benefited from them, helping her to find a stable job and an apartment for her and her sons. Everyone on welfare isn't abusing the system, but the few that are make it hard for those who really need it.

Its the same way where i live in NC. I couldnt get food stamps unless i had a job, or was looking for a job. I didnt apply for food stamps until i had a job. I work and i have a 2 year degree, but for personal reasons, its hard for me to get a job. I need the benifits i get from the government, and i work hard, and pay taxes like everyone else. Its the people who take advantage of the system that make the people who actually do work, but still need a little help, look bad.

There is a mandantory 5 year limit of receving welfare benefits in Texas. They cannot stay on welfare and work indefinitely. You have five years, period, to find a job, and after that you are no longer eligible for it. Texas only allows you to stay on welfare for 4 months after finding a job. This also enables a person to get government grants and complete their education therefore getting out of the welfare system permanently.

They don't do that where I live but I know better. I know plenty of people who have been on welfare actively looking for jobs and also working. They mostly worked minimum wage jobs but hey atleast they are working. Some people were not born smart or blessed with a great family that can afford a good education so I don't fault anyone. And welfare really is not that much so I assume people are constantly looking for better.

No I don't really beleive that everyone on welfare doesn't work...however I do know that the children who are on welfare don't work and neither do the minor parents who give birth to them. Because CHILDREN of 12, 13 and 14 are protected under the child labor laws and children of 12, 13 and 14 are having babies...and not all of them have parents who are footing the bills for them to have and raise these babies...DUH

People that draw social security or ssi and gets welfare does not have to work to keep their welfare but people that are able to work has to work to keep their welfare. It is like that in my homestate.
My sister had to sign up on welfare cause her sorry "man" wouldn't work but she had to get out and get a job to keep drawing what little bit she did get.

Welfare is for people that need it. I needed it once and didn't go for it. Instead I lived with someone that controlled me and was very rude to me. At least I was respected. I went and they treated me very rude, like I was trying to use the system, and I wasn't, I really needed help.. The staff treat your like a peice of dirt and people look down on you
