Yes. A couple of close friends and I had a.. bizarre encounter once.. It was at a very old church on the end of the pier. A cold wind came over and suddenly I was alone looking at a luminous young brunette girl in a magnificent white dress, standing by a cliff-edge. She was crying and looking straight at me, and in an instant I could feel all of her sadness as if it were my own.. I started crying too.. and before I knew it there was a bright white light and she was gone. I looked around and J, the gal that was with us was on the floor crying and M my best mate at the time, was staring at me mouth wide open. We ran. It was a very emotional night.
It turns out upon later research that there used to be lots of bad things going on around there.. It was a hideout for pirates, and a brothel used to be nearby.. The church had such powerful energy, I cannot describe it. I don't think it was good at all. Ghosts tend to be unfufilled beings with nothing but memories and regrets.. Its very sad, I wanted to help her more than anything. I went there with a old protective talismen a month or so later to sit and contemplate. I was grasping it tightly in my hand and as I got to the top of the hill on the pier I saw a luminous white stone and it started glowing.. In a flash the talismen went flying out of my hands. It was too much for me and I sprinted.. I could swear that whatever energy was there it wanted me. I looked back and saw her again. I must have fainted as the next thing I know its morning and I'm laying there with the talismen in my hand again.
It was an incredible experience like nothing I've ever known, but I never went back there at night again! :P I still remember exactly how she looked and what she was wearing. So pretty and sad... *sigh*
EDIT- I don't care if you guys thumbs down me, it really happened, me and my friends have talked about it many many times. I'm not on drugs, hadn't been drinking or anything, I'm not delusional and I'm not psychopathic. I saw what I saw, nothing you say will change that.

Some stories are made up. But I do believe that ghosts exist. I have felt their presence and know people who are more sensitive to being able to see them. As far as it means, to be honest, I don't think there is too significant a meaning. I personally believe that we enter a spirit world before the second coming of Christ which is right where we are, just sort of a different dimension, and that the spirits are around us all the time. There are several different types of ghosts and ghost stories, but I think that in some cases or some places the veil (for lack of a better word) between this world and that grows thin, and that sometimes we can see things. Most of the time, I don't think it really means anything other than the fact that we have souls. There are times I think when we see what we see for a reason. For instance, sometimes a grieving spouse will see the person who passed on and it helps to comfort them. Why this happens to some and not all I don't know. There are some evil spirits, too. Those I don't care to talk about much, but I personally consider some of them to be simply evil people who've passed on or some of the evil spirits who were cast out with Satan. But there are many good ones, too. I think a lot of "ghosts" are normal people who in some cases had a really hard time moving on--a lot of the stories happen with an untimely or tragic death. And again for some it is just a sign that there is life after death or at least that we have a soul. In many cases, I don't see much more of a purpose or meaning than this.

I was just talking to someone about this yesterday. I am a Christian and that I know of, the bible does not speak of this possibility. However, I have been places where I could feel a presence that I would say were ghosts. Not often, it's only happened a couple of times.
Different from feeling an oppressive "spirit", I have felt that too, more often I might add. So, I don't really know what to make of it.

I used to. I grew up in a haunted house where really weird things happened. (something breathing hot breath down my mother's neck, stuff moving to different places, noises, flashes out of the corner of your eye, someone tugging your hair). However, after studying the Bible, I no longer believe these are ghosts but believe they were demonic forces at work. Particularly after we built on our addition and the activity increased. Some really scary things happened, and there was a heavy feel to the house.
I also no longer believe loved ones come back to us, because God tells us not to talk to the dead. He tels us this to protect us because these are probably demons, doing a very good job of posing as the dead loved one.
I'm glad I no longer live in that house. It was a scary place to spend my teen years. I hated being home alone and I was always looking over my shoulder.

Evil angels impersonate the dead. Those are the only ghosts. If you feel their presence , get the heck away.

Yes, but they are only fallen angels, also known as demons. This is yet another trick of satan's to try and fool mankind. Yes, I have felt their presents in situations before I was saved. It was a terrible experience.

Yes! I actually saw a few in my lifetime. We lived with one for about 12 years. My kids saw him but I didn't until about a year before we moved. When I saw him I described him to my girls and they said "oh that's Shadow Man" That's what they called him as we don't know his name. I have no idea what it means

No. Ghosts are the same kind of myths that gave rise to religions.
