In the wild the female Finch will brood up to 3 times a year in the warmer months and usually each clutch contains up to 6 eggs.
However in captivity I wouldn't allow any more than 2 clutches a year, the breeding process takes allot out of the female, not to mention the fact that captivity itself shortens their lifespan. Always keep your males separate, and only introduce them when your female is brooding (ready to mate) you will know when she's ready Zebra Finch like to dance and is part of their mating ritual.

I have Zebra finches and I let mine only have 1 clutch of 5 babies - thankfully, that was enough for me because I kept all of them but after 2 years of having the babies - those same babies attacked the mother. She got mobbed bad and I didn't think she would make it - had to seperate them.
Anyway, be careful when having too many clutches because it may be too much for mom. I read that ground oyster shell (I bought mine at pet store) is great to give them because having so many eggs depletes the moms calcium levels.

Plz check out these websites - they provide info on breeding zebra finches and chick development -

They recommend letting the Parents rest after Raising babies because it is a great deal of hard work & takes a large toll on the health of the parents.
