No, but I always worried that I would be due to social anxiety.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cognitive_b... worked best for me. I suffered from social anxiety for over 15 years. I've tried meds, individual therapy, and group therapy and studied psychology for 10 years, as a profession, but also with the hope to cure myself.

Depending on your comfort level, you could go to a psychologist that practices CBT and specializes in anxiety disorders, seek a group therapy, or create one. Usually those that do attend the group therapy are a bit more high functioning because as you know, it can be difficult to speak in a group.

Another idea is to see if there are any local research studies being conducted that you could participate in.

The program that finally worked the best for me is this one: http://www.socialanxiety.us/findinghelp.... and I was lucky enough to have a structured behavioral group to go along with it. Sometimes the people that actually attend this program come back home and form groups.

Any questions, let me know ... I can't tell you how much this has improved my life!

Yes, I wouldn't go outside or communicate with people other than who I felt comfortable with (3 yrs+). Lost any kinds of friendships that had been previously established. Lost my kids to my ex-husband, now have to pay child support. I loose all feeling in my extremities when bad. Been to the ER. Tried to take my life. Locked down for 5 days becuse I didn't want to die after I OD'd. Major depressive disorder, but these days, it's normal. Life sucked, and no one could feel the way I do at that point and time.Somtimes, I still think that. I even tried to apply for Social Security Disability for a social anxiety disorder. Government STINKS! Pay taxes and no return when you really need it. I was denied SSI and SSD because I was so embarassed about what was going on in my mind that I could not tell the entire truth upon evaluation. Always, always be honest. One way or the other it pays off in the end, just not with the government. It did make me feel better in the end to be honest to myself and admit what was bothering me. I still can't be in large crowds, but I have to breathe and deal.

Hey, let me tell you this, if you have the energy and time to be on the computer to do this, then you are better than I was. It is a gift to wake up every morning and see the sun shine no matter what it bothers me, because I know I woke up this morning. It's a blessing. No, I am not a church preacher, just got grateful. Lots of trials and tribulations. They all sucked, and still do, but I have to be the bigger person, no matter what the future holds for me.

I am. I started with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), developed anxiety disorder which then turned into full panic disorder and finally agoraphobia. I have not left my apartment for two years. So, if I can't leave my own front door, I can't work. I have become paralyzed with fear of everything, but mostly of people or the public. If you have anxiety disorder, try your best to get it treated before it gets worse. Best of luck.

I have it, I do not let it keep me from working as this helps me to cope better since I am not adding to my worries as to having to live on disability which really isn't very much money. Mine was caused from being held up at gunpoint at my job and being threatened that I was going to be killed. I had some bad problems because of it, but I am better now, and you must not give up by permanently going into the system.

I was almost crippled because of that some time ago but luckily came out of it quickly enough. If you need help, it is available in several forms and you can try what works best. Can share information if needed.
