I was almost killed when a doctor told me that I was constipated when I had appendicitis. He prescribed laxatives (which cause the appendix to burst) and told me keep taking them to make the pain go away, that there was no way it could be anything else. I have low esteem, so I trusted the doctor, and by the time I finally went to see another one (taking the laxatives in hopes they would fix the agony I was suffering), I almost died. Every doctor I talked to after that said that at the stage of appendicitis I was in, any fool with a medical degree could have known what I had. I field suit, and because of the way my state's malpractice system goes, I didn't win. The doctor's defense: I was a nursing student at the time and I should have known better. Basically, malpractice sucks. if you're luckier than me, you can get a good lawyer. Try a few lawyers and see what answers they give you. Stay away from the ones with the flashy ads; those usually mean trouble (from what I've heard, anyway). Good luck.

I am sorry to hear that this happened to you and am equally thankful that you have such a loving advocate...

TO answer your question, doctors get away with this because they BURY their mistakes and tell the family it was (heart failure or whatever else sounds convient). In some towns the corner is a patronage job so they accept the word of the dr. as gospel.
Guy wouldnot have been to the hospital if he wasnt sick in th first place so it is VERy easy for them to get away with that.
If your wife had not have been there, they would have said you died from an infection from the broken leg (or who knows what).

Kiss your wife again,
she seriously knows the meaning of 'in sickness and in health'!

you could start by asking other people who have had problems, and start a petition this way you can build an army of people who can slowly start making a mark
