animal welfare society--bring it in and let them know you found it as a stray

Hello Derya
You have really been great to adopt so many kitties and take care of them. Sometimes cats do reach a point when that is all the cats they are going to tolerate. With our cats the number used to hit 5-7 and they would begin to fight or worse disappear. So you are doing well to have 9 living together peacefully. Your cats may get used to the new family member in a day or two but if your cats still dislike the kitten in a day or so why not put an ad in the paper or on Freecycle in your area (see Yahoo groups) or put up signs with her picture offering her to a good loving home. If you can afford to get her kitten shots first that would be great and might help her get a better home. Please also check with animal control and the humane society if there is one in your area and see if anyone has reported this kitten missing and is looking for her. It might help too to look for a no kill shelter or cat rescue in your area. It sounds like you are a person who will always be finding a cat in need and have a heart big enough to reach out to them so a place like that would be good for you to know about and you would be a blessing to them too. I hope it works out well for your new kitten.

Confine the kitten in a room away from the other cats for at least a week. Provide food bowl, water bowl and litter box. Then Put the kitten in a carrier or crate when re-introducing her to the other cats. Let them sniff at her and satisfy their curiosity while kitten is in the safety of her carrier. Introductions should be done gradually becuase every addition into a cat society threatens the hierarchy and balance of the den. The hissing should gradually stop and when you sense that the kitten has been accepted or at least tolerated, you can let her roam around at wil with the other cats.

Spend tomorrow in front of the local grocery store. First clean up the kitty. Then make a sign that says free kitten. Someone is sure to grab her up. Two ways to make it work better:
1. You could include some kitty food or litter or toys, something to sweeten the deal (also free information on how to have him neutered)
2. If it becomes late and no one seems interested write on sign that you will have to release cat if no one takes him. That'll pull at the heart strings.
It was right to rescue, now give it to a good home so someone else can enjoy (especially since it's breaking the peace at home).
Take care and thanx for helping a good cause!

Well maybe they think the new cat is got most of your attention..Just ignore it and pay attention to the older cats..Kinda like having a new baby.. Children get jealous to when mom and dad spend more time with new baby..as long as all the cats use the cat boxes and mind their manners..The newness will wear off.. If not guess new kitty last to arrive first to find new home...It also could be the scent the new kitty has that is confusing to everyone.. rub her down with one of the other kitties blankets and maybe she will blend in better...Also your suppose to keep new kitties in separate room for a week or so, until they get used to you before you introduce them to the rest of the family.I did not have to do this but a friend of mine did...

don't give up yet. wait a week or two and see how things go. If you would like to keep the kitten then try to not spend all your time with it. Your other cats may just becoming jealous that you are tending to this new cat rather than to them. Try to be fair. If the problems continue then take the kitten to a near by shelter or veterinary hospital.

Don't worry. This has happenedd many times with me too. They'll get used to the new kitten in about a week or two or maybe sooner. You can wait till 2 weeks. If it still doesn't work, i know it'll be hard for you to hand it over to an animal shelter so just give it to a neighbour or someone who's willing to keep it and who's also willing to let you visit it whenever you want to.

Good luck! Hope your cats get used to it

Aw good on you for taking the poor kitty in, I would love to have nine cats! I have two, Well maybe if its upsetting your other cats too much then your only option might be to give it to a new home before you get to attached to it, or maybe things might settle down and your other cats will except the new one. If not an animal shelter will be able to find him a suitable home. Good luck!

9? I have enough problems dealing with my one cat. I always dread it when I have to take her in to the vet for her shots each year. When I think of the vet bills, the cat food and kitty litter.... oh I stagger to think of what it would be if I had 9 more cats.
I assume that you take care of your cats - shots, etc. That in itself is alot of money! I hope you spayed or neutered them, there are too many strays out there already.
I only take care of what I pay for the vet care of. It is hard but in this world of strays I have to be hard-hearted unless I had the money to take care of the strays as well as my own.

In answer to your question: If the new kitten is causing that much problem with the society of the other cats', you should think first of the cats you already have. Is their disrupted society worth a new kitten that they haven't accepted? If your answer is no, consider taking the kitten to the humane society.

Well, some where along the way... another cat may have spread or peed on them to mark them as their property which is causing these other cats to be nasty.. try gradually having the cats share some quality time with the other.. They may all be friends in no time.. but, if not try to place them in a good home.

We have six cats, we got all of ours from the streets as well..The routine is the same everytime we bring one home.. everyone freaks, and runs and hides and hisses, but in a few weeks all is calm again. Keep him.. he needs you.
