I'm down in the basement and all of a sudden my dog is growling with her tail between her legs and looking at the stairs. I don't see or hear anything, but she's freaking me out. She doesn't normally act like this. I'm the only one home, so nobody is upstairs.

My dog did that one night when we were alone. She stood up and started growling at something that wasn't there..it really freaked me out. It depends on whether you believe in ghosts or not. But it is a fact that animals can sense things that we cannot. She could've heard something...

Dogs have an incredible sense of hearing -- and can hear higher frequencies that human ears (such as your own) cannot. So if there is a high pitch sound eminating from outside, upstairs, or anywhere, she may feel certain that there is a threat and is being defensive/protective (especially because you obviously are not aware of what she is hearing).

I'll bet that if you were on high alert, and were more in the dominant/alpha role at this time, she would not be acting that way at all.

And no, dogs can't see/hear ghosts. Just ask her.

I don't know if it was a ghost or not, but my dog was definitely looking at something today. It seemed to be in the air about 10-15 feet in front of him. He was looking at it with his full attention as though whatever he was looking at was really doing something interesting. I, on the other hand, was standing right next to him and didn't see a thing. There wasn't anything in the sky or even on the horizon that I could see. He watched it for a good 10 minutes. I don't know what they see or sense, but there's no doubt it's more than we do.

I was at the computer one month after my husband died. I heard the back door open and now one was there...then I heard footsteps and turned quickly around and still no one was there and both my dogs were staring in the same direction of the sounds...I felt a present and then it left and both dogs laid down and went back to sleep. Stay calm.

Yep, it really freaks me out. My chi sits up in bed sometimes and starts barking intently at nothing. She doesnt normally bark a lot so im assuming she thought she saw something.
