In most cases it can easily be done over the phone especially if it's a brand new car if it's pre-owned and you have full coverage they might want you to bring the car by for a quick inspection and pictures but in most cases a phone call will due.
Make sure you have the VIN number of the car, mileage and so on. Make sure you let the agent know if the car has anything special i.e. special alarm like Low-jack etc. Make sure that you know what deductible limits your finance company requires, if you leased the vehicle you may need to change your liability limits as well as add the lease company as an additional insured. Some requirements on private passenger leased vehicles have changed over the years and I don't deal much with private passenger lease vehicles but more with commercial, so just make sure you know before you contact your agent or company.
Should be as simple as that. Hopefully you will be able to get an Idea of what your new rate will be too. Sometimes we agents can hit it right on the head but most of the time we will only be able to give you a close ballpark. Underwriting has the final say on the rate once they receive all the information.
Good luck and congrats on your NEW CAR!!!

Insurance laws vary from state to state, but most if not all allow you time to inform your agent of a vehicle change. Changes in vehicles that do not involve changing the coverage usually give you a 30 day time limit. If there is a change in coverage, such as going from just liablility to full coverage, then there may be only a 10 day limit. With any change, you may need provide date of proof of purchase. Can you do it over the phone? Depends on the company and what they require. Best advice, call your agent as soon as you can after you buy another vehicle.

Depends on the state you live in as to whether you can do it by phone or not, but you won't know unless you pick up the phone and call.
You will need the year, make, model, and vehicle i.d. number...all of these things are on the paperwork you received when you purchased the vehicle. You'll also need your lienholder information--if you don't have it yet that's okay, just call them with it when you get it--you can still add your car without it.

Yes, you can. Usually in US, you need to have an insurance before hand to register the car in your name. You will need your car information; VIN number, car make, model year, your drivier license and others whom you want to be listed on the policy.

If you currnetly have insurance, just call your agent and add this vehicle. You will need the VIN, make, model, year, coupe/sedan, any extras the vehicle may have(tires and wheels, nice stereo and speakers).
