There's lots of people that aren't related with the same last name for example 2 actors:

Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky Spencer on General Hospital; Mud Himmel on Camp Nowhere)

Joshua Jackson (Charlie on Mighty Ducks; ex-Pacy on Dawson's Creek; Luke Mcnamerra on The Skulls)

They are in no way shape or form related but they have the same last name.

People once took last names that told what they did for a living, names such as Smith, Baker, Taylor, Sawer. Later these names were passed down to children even if they didn't follow in the family trade. So anyone today named Baker probably had a baker for an ancestor but there were lots of bakers and not all them were related.

In some countries it was common to have a last name based on your father's first name. If you were Johnson your father's name was John but your sons would have a different last name based on your first name. (In some families the first and last name of the first son would alternate each generation, i. e. Robert Johnson > John Robertson > Robert Johnson etc.) Later this practice gave way to constant last names so a Johnson today is just someone who's ancestor was the last one to take his father's first name and add a "son" to it.

Well..not necessarily. Someone along the line could have been adopted, or changed their name to hide from something or any number of reasons. But all surnames have somekind of common ancestry. The Smiths for example gained the name from their trade, Smithing. And how many Smiths culd there have been around the world. Gold, Silver, Copper and Black Smiths to name a few. Farmer, Baker and Fischer, the same thing. Hope this helps.

Not necessarily because there are so many last names in the world but in the same locality the people with same last names could be relatives.

Genealogy, however, has it means of tracing the roots of people based on the compiled or accumulated records put together.

Hence, people of the same lineage whether of same or different last names can be traced from the known records.

We are all related, because we all came from Adam and Eve. Also, last names came from what a person did, who their parents were or where they lived. Example: John Baker was a baker, Tom Harisson was the son of Hariss, and Jim Plains probably didn't live in the mountains.

No.

Long ago when people first came to the United States it was too hard for the people processing them to spell their names, most didnt speak english, so they just gave them names, some did speak some english and chose common "american" names.
