I look at it this way. If I ticket a nurse from the local ER I have one thing on my mind. If I am ever in need of emergency treatment, 1) will this nurse be on duty at the time and 2) will she use a 5/8" garden hose for a catheter? Kind of answers itself!

Yes it IS true! Police and nurses have had a historical relationship for many many years. They have occasion to meet in emergency rooms in their dealing with injured people. They also know someday they will be there as a victim of a work related injury and wish to be treated well and not by an angry nurse who just got a ticket on her way to work. Police also tend to marry nurses in disproportionate numbers as compared to other occupations.

Ha! You know what? I have gotten several tickets in my lifetime (probably about ten total - I know this sounds like a lot but I've been driving 20 yrs now and I worked in a bar for years and 2:30am driving home on the fwy was when I got a lot of my tickets from cops trying to bust drunk drivers). Anyway, each time I've tried to be cooperative, contrite and charming but I am invariably super pissed off I got pulled over and the cop can tell. Probably my mumbling "****!" and hitting the steering wheel with my hand - something like that? lol, so because of this, only once did I get a warning and that's because I was upset and crying and I think he felt sorry for me. And BTW I am pretty, blond with big boobs. I am in my late 30's now but even in my early 20's my appearance seemed to have NO effect on them whatsoever. I'd always get the ticket!!!
However, around last Halloween I was leaving work around 8am I guess going around 75 on the fwy and got pulled over. Yes, I was speeding but a weekend and no one on the road, I was dying to get home after getting off my three night stretch of 12 hr shifts. I was getting the ticket without much conversation when he noticed my badge around my neck. He commented, "Oh you work at .... up the road? Running late?" I said, "No I work at .... but not the clinic, the hospital back there...and I work night shift so I'm just getting off. I guess I'm just wanting to get home to get some rest for Halloween with my kids"
Well total attitude change, he joked around for a bit telling me that the .... nurses (my hospital) were so much nicer than the ..... nurses (competing hospital) and he would let me go and to be careful driving home after that long night shift. Then he winked at me and followed me carefully to the freeway split and waved at me! Well!!!
When I told this to my friends at work, two of them told me they had similar experiences (not the same cop though - I asked) so I don't know if this is true. But if you're looking for anecdotal evidence this is it. After that day, I hang my hospital ID badge in my car when I'm not using it - just in case. Why not?

Generally speaking.. i'd say thats likely true.. that cops life may depend on a nurse someday.. Cops (generally) are hesitant to give tickets to certain classes of people.. example other cops, Medical personel, other civil servants & officials etc.
This is just a generality.. some cops will ticket anyone.. and that lasts until they give the wrong person a ticket say a judge LOL.. Then they usually become Mall security guards

some are more sympathetic to them because our jobs have similar issues, like working 3rd shifts, dealing with some freaky people and things of that sort.
and we like to have friends in the ER just in case.
my mom is a nurse and she usually gets let go if she is speeding home from work.

I have never heard that one...
It depends on the police officer... where... and who you are...
I used to live on a small island in Hawaii... I got pulled over, but the police officer let me go because he knew my father...

Hahahaha....wow. That's an amazing leap of faith! Heck, I'd bet that a cop would give the POPE a speeding ticket if they caught him!
