Don't get the car fixed by the dealership that sold it to you unless you have a warranty. They sold you the car and giving you a hard time, they're not trustworthy and the amount you've listed seems extremely high, you could probably get a whole new engine for that much.

As for it being your problem for not checking, the dealership has an obligation to represent the car as it is.

Before you get the car fixed, look into Washington's state laws regarding used car sales. Depending on the conditon of the car and how the problems came about, you may have grounds to sue for the cost of the repairs or get your money back through the return of the vehicle.

Since you're new to the US, get some of your friends on board to help you sort this out. If your local news has a call for action hotline try that, nothing gets bad business on the ball than being ambushed by the evening news. Good luck!

You could also tell him that you are going to report them to the Better Business Burea, some times just mentioning the BBB willl make some companies to go against policy. Its worth a shot cause the worst they can say is go ahead and report us, Im not sure if they will listen to your report at the BBB but I have mentioned it to a few other people at different companies, and they gave me what I wanted, Ive never actually contacted the BBB. Give it a shot and see what happens.

Get a second opinion at another dealer, but you will have to have it towed and pay addition costs to get it looked at. When you say the engine is broken, you mean it wont turn on? or he suggests that you dont drive it?

depending on where the oil is coming from, it shouldn't cost 3000-4000 dollars. defineatley get it looked at by someone else

Try your county attorney they should be able to give you some names and phone numbers of what the laws are and if not look up the phone number for Motor Vehicle Division and they can tell you.
