Wouldn't you be considered insane for believing in anything else you couldn't see or hear? If you don't believe it's insane, do you think people that believe in ghosts and other things that can't be seen or heard are insane?

I didn't add my personal opinion in here, I asked a question. So, don't go assuming or predicting what you think it is I believe. I want to know why it isn't considered insane to believe in God that cannot be seen, but people who believe in friends, ghosts, etc.. are considered insane, that is all. I would like to know how they come to these conclusions without proof.

How come not believing in God isn't considered insane?

Well it is a form of insanity to base you whole life on concepts that come down us in a highly suspect way with complete unquestioned acceptance. Indoctrination is very hard to over come when you are taught a way of thinking from childhood. The insane become sane. That is why the God believers always use the God is all powerful card. It explains away their insanity.

Remember it was considered and believed the world was flat and people would have killed others for saying different. We can not ignore the power of indoctrination into a certain way of thinking. There was a time it was not safe to have this type of discussion. The more free we become in our speech the more we are able to challenge old beliefs systems. I think it is only a matter of time believing in the concept of God will become like believing in the concept of a flat world, insanity...

Hey. Here's something for you to chew on. What if blind people starting telling people who could see that they were delusional or crazy. After all, they can't even imagine what the color red looks like, much less a sunset. All they know is blackness, without even really knowing if it is black, relative to other colors. Deaf people can't hear, but when they see someone crying because of the beauty of a song, I don't think they doubt that the person is hearing something. Even if they have no concept of what hearing is or why it could make you cry. To someone who is missing one of their senses, there is no way for them to be assured that what they're missing is actually the way it has been described to them, so why do they believe others descriptions?
Wouldn't it make sense for some to disbelieve the consensus. Perhaps start some catchy nicknames.
"Those "seeists" are really dumb and hypocrytical. They claim they can see, but just yesterday I heard one of them tripping over a rock. They are blind just like us."
Someone who sees people's convictions and beliefs as delusions or insanity is like a group of blind people telling everyone who can see that they are actually the blind ones. And that the colors and shapes they see everyday are really just a coping mechanism they have developed instead of just accepting the fact that everyone is actually blind. And that the real blind people are those who can't accept that the world is a dark place.
With this in mind, maybe instead of seeing others as crazy, those people need to examine themselves and discover what their "eyes" are missing out on.

Looking at a sunset, the perfection and miracle of a newborn baby, or a clear blue sky and thinking that it all happened by some huge mistake or a "big bang" take a lot more faith, in my opinion, than believing in a creator. So, who is the insane one?

Personally, I'm really tired of the media and those who don't believe calling Christians crazy, radical, haters, etc. etc. etc. I really wish those who have this view would stop and think about how they would feel if people attacked them for their personal beliefs (or lack thereof).

Nevertheless, call me crazy, backwards, or whatever name--me and my house will still serve the Lord.

How come not believing in God isn't considered insane? Wouldn't you be considered insane for not having the faith to understand that only God has proof of his existence, that the lack of proof is to test us to see if we will trust Him or trash Him?

i asked the same question from my psychiatry lecturer and she said that's because belief in religion is a cultural delusion which the majority of people suffer from. so it's not a disease but a peculiarity. of course if a single person has delusions of hearing aliens talk then he is considered insane!

Interesting arguements here....a lot of you are asking why not believing in god isn't grounds for insanity...have any of you ever met a schizophrenic? Everything they believe is happening is 100% real to them, and everyone else is "crazy" for not hearing/seeing it too. Yall aren't crazy for believing in god...just dumb, and easily fooled.

Some believe that not believing in God is insanity.

So long as it isn't hurting you, why do you care?

if you went into a room with 99 people who had been blind since birth, would you be insane to belive in color?

no. despite the fact that nobody else in the room could see color, and you could, it is perfectly sane for you to "believe in" color.

its the same thing, just on a larger scale.

I can perceive some metaphysical things and have interacted with them before. the fact that YOU cannot, or do not recognize it when you do, means nothing.

what makes you SO certain that you see all there is to see? that there is not some whole additional "level" of existance that you are effectively blind to, that some others are not?
