I've notice flakes on my hair lately. Could this be dandruff? My hair is not oily though and from what I know dandruff is most likely to develop when hair is oily. Also whenever I scratch my scalp I see more of it. Is it possible that my scalp is so dry that it has become flaky and almost peeling. I'm worried. What is it?dandruff or dry scalp?

hi,
dandruff gets a yellowish tinge to it... dry scalp shedding are always white. don't be worried... just get a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and be sure to rub your scalp (not with finger nails) good when shampooing, give your hair and scalp a good, but gentle, brushing before shampooing to loosen all scalp shedding. after conditioning and rinsed out, squeeze out excess water and pour some vinegar over your scalp, leave a few minutes and rinse. i hope this helped. :)

This is the most common complaint, and all of us suffer from this at some time or the other. There are a lot of misconceptions associated with dandruff. People who have this problem rush out and buy up the latest shampoos and conditioners. There is also a misconception that dandruff is caused by dry scalp. In fact, it is due to an oily scalp. Wrong dietary habits like excessive consumption of cheese and chocolates also cause oil to accumulate on the scalp and cause dandruff. Worry and tension increase the flow of oil in the scalp, make you prone to dandruff. These white flakes can be a nightmare. Dandruff further tends to weaken the scalp, and the flakes falling on your face, neck and shoulders can affect your skin too.For more details see

Kid, it's the same thing! Dandruff is caused by a dry scalp(not oily hair - who told you that?). You have a dry scalp. That is why you have dandruff.

It could be a few different things. Go to a doctor or if you can't do that go to a salon and have them look at it and tell you what they recommend. My daughter itches hers so much it bleeds. I put Vitamin E on her scalp twice a week and it has made a huge difference. It can get to the point that your hair can't grow because of and you could also start loosing it. I know this because my sister has bad psoriasis. Just make sure you don't let it go. Oh one more thing it can appear in other areas on your body especially psoriasis my sister has it on her arm, in her ear and a few other places. I'm not saying that it spreads but it like an infection in your system. So make sure you check your body every once in awhile for any patches starting.

simple...the quantity of "dead skin" that you find will tell you. the more you have the more likely that it is dandruff. If its just dry scalp then it less, and its more noticable when you brush or comb.

it's also possible that it is just shampoo build-up
