Simply a conscious being. When we die, so does our soul.
Oh and since I am first, that means I am right.

There really isn't any evidence of the existence of souls. I don't believe anything has a soul. If all everything is is material, then how can there be souls, which aren't material? I don't believe I have a self or spirit and I think the concept of "I" (or recognition of self) is just an illusion. It's all in the brain and the brain is just material. And I don't believe in God(s) or anything like that.

The soul is the essence of who we are. The body is just a shell, but the soul live on. The Bible says:
"And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell." (Matthew 10:28 RSV)
There is some disagreement among theologians about spirit vs. soul. Many say that the spirit is what lives on. It is created by God and it will return to God for judgement. Here is an interesting study on this topic:

I believe it's our Spirit that never dies, but goes to heaven or hell once the body dies. Our body is the shell that encases the soul, the part of us that is our conscience. It's like the engine (soul) that causes the vehicle to move (body). Therefore our vehicles go in the direction that the engine moves it. I hope your engine moves your vehicle down the right path in your road of life. And if it ever gets you lost, stop and ask Jesus for directions. He will show you the way. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life"!!

Do you go to heaven when you die?
NO!
The question of death is closely tied to creation. How were we created? GEN.2:7
"AND THE LORD GOD FORMED MAN OF THE DUST OF THE GROUND, AND BREATHED INTO HIS NOSTRILS THE BREATH OF LIFE, AND MAN BECAME A LIVING BEING."
The Bible does not teach that God placed a soul in us at creation. It specifically states that God formed man(body) out of the dust of the ground, and breathed into him the breath of life, and man became a living soul(person or being).
Equation Form, body+breath= living soul.
Is the soul mortal or immortal? EZEK.18:4
"BEHOLD, ARE SOULS ARE MINE; THE SOUL OF THE FATHER AS WELL AS THE SOUL OF THE SON IS MINE; THE SOUL WHO SINS SHALL DIE."
"Mortal" means subject to death.
"Immortal" means not subject to death, imperishable.
Who only has immortality? 1TIM.6:15
",,,HE WHO IS THE BLESSED AND ONLY PONTENTATE, THE KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS, WHO ALONE HAS IMMORTALITY, DWELLING IN UNAPPROACHABLE LIGHT, WHOM NO MAN HAS SEEN OR CAN SEE, TO WHOM BE HONOR AND EVERLASTING POWER. AMEN."
******************************...
Actually when people die; they're asleep in the grave. Death is called a sleep (Matt.9:24; John 11:11; 1Cor.15:51; 1Thess.5:10).
The spirit goes back to God that gave it!(Eccles.12:7; Psalm 146:4).
No man is in heaven except for Jesus--JOHN 3:13; ACTS 2:34.

A fiction. There is no evidence to support a theory of an entity associated with but disparate from a human body.

Good question. I tend to think of it as our immortal being that shall exist in either heaven or hell depending on religious orientation. As for being more specific... a spiritual force maybe? I'm sorry, I can't really be much help on this subject.
