If it is really laryngitis the only treatment is complete rest. The inflammation of the vocal cords usually resolves in a few days (don't try whispering, it puts more strain on the cords). Watch for signs of infection (pain, swelling, fever or difficulty swallowing) and if it is not getting better in about 3-4 days then schedule an appointment with your doctor.

Gargle with Swedish bitters or Braggs apple cider vinegar. Both of these remedies work well and can e repeated every 2-3 hrs.

every hour drink one small shot glass of straight aple cidar vinagar.. this breaks down the mucous around the vocal cords and takes the inflammation away so you can talk again. It wont be easy to do but if you are persistant with every hour and without talking or trying to use your voice at all you should be able to speak in 24 hours.. works everytime with me. it will be gross... but dont chase it with anything..... the acid inthe vinigar needs to sit in the throat. without being diluted or washed down. good luck!

Don't talk. Wait. If it gets worse. Go to doctor and get a step test.
If step is positive. If you want to feel better now. Pull pants past hip. Get shot. You will feel much better within 12 hrs.
If your scared of needle. Take pills, you will suffer longer, but will get better too.

O.K. you're going to think this is crazy, but I have a friend who SWEARS by hot TANG-- yes, the orange drink. She says to make it strong and drink it hot--sipping on it all day. She even sent it in to some remedy book. I'm not making promises--just sharing info.

drink lots of fluids and take acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) for your symptoms as well.
Many people find inhaling steam, such as from a hot bath or shower, or a cool mist humidifier makes them feel better.
In all cases you should avoid smoking and areas where others are smoking.

yes not to talk til it is over, and whispering can make it worse, you can lose your voice forever, and i do mean forever, if you use you voice when you have laryngitis.

Yes, just as you are doing. Mechanically, not verbally.
